Looks like all the three virtual disks are assigned to the same controller (controller 1). For some reason, looks like controller 0 is not being used.
Are all your cables properly connected? If you disconnect controller 1, are you still able to see the LUNs?
Also, you could check the "DisableLunRebalance" registry key located at: HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\md3dsm\Parameters. This should be set to 0.
Thanks a lot. I'm working on it remotely, I will check cabling tomorrow although I'm sure it is fine. If I turn controller 1, I don't see the LUNs. Looks like controller 0 has a problem, is there any other place to check it's status, health or functionality! It shows in the drop down list under Support\Place RAID controller module on or off, or is this by default?
The "DisableLunRebalance" registry key value is 0. I redistributed the Virtual Disks under Support Tab and it showed temporarily array optimal for less than a minute. I was able to get an updated information below, it shows correct distribution over controllers 0 & 1 for an instant but won't stay long :(

To me, it looks like a connectivity problem. Looking at the profile above, it does not appear that the controller 0 is at fault. You could also try deleting and recreating your host, ensuring that you are using the correct SAS ports.
When you rebalance them manually, the system shows optimal for a bit while it tries the paths, and when it senses that it is unable to communicate down that path, it goes back to the path that works. That is probably why you are seeing this error.
The outputs I requested are from the server. Sorry that I didn't mention that (I figured that requesting the uname -a would be enough to hint that :emotion-1:).
It sounds like your multipathing drivers aren't working. The dkms status can show if the driver installed properly or not. The other 2 commands will show the rdac (multipathing driver) version and your kernel version.
@Dev-Mgr: The commands you mentioned are for a linux host server. ZaziT is running the MD3000 directly attached to a single win2k3 box. So, dkms, rdac etc do not apply to this configuration:).
@ZaziT: Please could you post the output from the following command.:
dsmutil -a
You can find this under \Program Files\DSMdrivers\md3dsm\.
Also, are you planning to cluster this system? I noticed that you have a host group created. The host group is only needed if you plan on clustering hosts together. Otherwise, the easiest way would be to create a single host with all SAS HBA ports assigned to it. You can assign your virtual disks to that one host.
Dev Mgr and Mohan thanks to both of you. I have uninstalled everything, re-cabled the host and deleted the configuration. It looks like the host group was the problem, I didn't want a cluster. Once a single host was configured it showed all SAS HBA ports as assigned. I have been able to create the Virual disks, register them with the host and then format them in Device Manager. I have also rebooted the server and the MD still shows optimal. I guess problem solved however I prefer to wait until the opertaions in progress (4 hours so far) of virual disks intilization to be complete to confirm it.
I will keep you posted, I will repost the Array's profile and the dsmutil output, just in case there is another thing that I've missed or if you can detect something that can be better configured. Again thanks for all your help.

Thanks a lot for noticing that. I tried to reset the IP settings using 0s and then saving because I no longer use the ethernet ports, it works now for controller 0 but I still have the default gateway for controller 1 with Ip & sub of zeros. Any ideas how to reset both controllers in a clean way?

Looks like all the three virtual disks are assigned to the same controller (controller 1). For some reason, looks like controller 0 is not being used.
Are all your cables properly connected? If you disconnect controller 1, are you still able to see the LUNs?
Also, you could check the "DisableLunRebalance" registry key located at: HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\md3dsm\Parameters. This should be set to 0.

Hi Mohan,
Thanks a lot. I'm working on it remotely, I will check cabling tomorrow although I'm sure it is fine. If I turn controller 1, I don't see the LUNs. Looks like controller 0 has a problem, is there any other place to check it's status, health or functionality! It shows in the drop down list under Support\Place RAID controller module on or off, or is this by default?
The "DisableLunRebalance" registry key value is 0. I redistributed the Virtual Disks under Support Tab and it showed temporarily array optimal for less than a minute. I was able to get an updated information below, it shows correct distribution over controllers 0 & 1 for an instant but won't stay long :(

ZaziT,
To me, it looks like a connectivity problem. Looking at the profile above, it does not appear that the controller 0 is at fault. You could also try deleting and recreating your host, ensuring that you are using the correct SAS ports.
When you rebalance them manually, the system shows optimal for a bit while it tries the paths, and when it senses that it is unable to communicate down that path, it goes back to the path that works. That is probably why you are seeing this error.

The outputs I requested are from the server. Sorry that I didn't mention that (I figured that requesting the uname -a would be enough to hint that :emotion-1:).
It sounds like your multipathing drivers aren't working. The dkms status can show if the driver installed properly or not. The other 2 commands will show the rdac (multipathing driver) version and your kernel version.

@Dev-Mgr: The commands you mentioned are for a linux host server. ZaziT is running the MD3000 directly attached to a single win2k3 box. So, dkms, rdac etc do not apply to this configuration:).

@ZaziT: Please could you post the output from the following command.:
dsmutil -a
You can find this under \Program Files\DSMdrivers\md3dsm\.
Also, are you planning to cluster this system? I noticed that you have a host group created. The host group is only needed if you plan on clustering hosts together. Otherwise, the easiest way would be to create a single host with all SAS HBA ports assigned to it. You can assign your virtual disks to that one host.

Dev Mgr and Mohan thanks to both of you. I have uninstalled everything, re-cabled the host and deleted the configuration. It looks like the host group was the problem, I didn't want a cluster. Once a single host was configured it showed all SAS HBA ports as assigned. I have been able to create the Virual disks, register them with the host and then format them in Device Manager. I have also rebooted the server and the MD still shows optimal. I guess problem solved however I prefer to wait until the opertaions in progress (4 hours so far) of virual disks intilization to be complete to confirm it.
I will keep you posted, I will repost the Array's profile and the dsmutil output, just in case there is another thing that I've missed or if you can detect something that can be better configured. Again thanks for all your help.

Dev Mgr and Mohan. everything seems to work fine, Virtual Disks initilization is complete. I can see them under my Computer and MD shows optimal. I would appreciate if you could have a look at the Storage Array Profile and the output of dsmutil below to see if anything needs attention.

Your gateway is not on the same subnet as your IP for controller 0? I'm not saying it's wrong, but currious to say the least.

Thanks a lot for noticing that. I tried to reset the IP settings using 0s and then saving because I no longer use the ethernet ports, it works now for controller 0 but I still have the default gateway for controller 1 with Ip & sub of zeros. Any ideas how to reset both controllers in a clean way?
