This is the Dell software that came with the unit...I believe it costs about five hundred bucks from Dell, or so the invoice said it did...it comes on a disk "DELL BACKUP SOFTWARE"
I also had a separate license key orange paper for the server option and SQL options. Both are installed.
I've used the new media and formatted, and named each tape by day. set it to all access to include supervisor. again , no passwords.
I've changed the schedule to Custom, set to run all business days at ten pm....
I can make it run manually EVERY time i try it....it runs exactly like it's supposed to...but it just won't run on a schedule....
I've checked that the server doesn't go to sleep or hibernate....it's one of those mysteries that i bet is so simple it's impossible to see isn't it? haha.
Ike in Lawton,
p.s. Thank you so much for replying despite the outcome!
I wish I had some direct answers for you, the best I can do is point you to where they may be. I'm not very intimate with that application as it relates to scheduling.
I found this on the first search through the knowledge base, it may be worth a look.
Thank you very much for the links, i hope this works...i'll strip out the jobs that exist and walk through it step by step as indicated by that site....(i must confess i'm pretty sure i've tried it this way, but maybe i didn't properly set up the path to media folders....i hope it's something simple like that...i'm going in tomorrow to find out!)
I deleted all media, and jobs and used that guide by the book...i went ahead and set the job to run while i was there and it did indeed run exactly like it was supposed to! yay!
So what i have done, is reset the job for tonight's batch and we'll see what happens....
I'm pretty sure i know what i was doing wrong now too...
In the job options, you have a box to the right labeled "media"...well i had this pointing to the proper location of the media, but there is another path that must be properly pointed as well to the exact same location....this is where i'm pretty sure my mistake was....however...i find this redundancy a bit confusing...but...tonight will tell the true tale!

When you load the s/w is there a name for the application?
Is it Tapeware or Veritas Backup Exec?
I've not heard of DELL BACKUP SOFTWARE.
