which backup software

Help please,

I work for a charity and we are about to buy a poweredge server.  But we can't find any guidance on which tape back-up software option to choose.  Is there a big difference between Tapeware basic, Tapeware Enhanced and Veritas v9.1??

We don't really have any IT experts in our office so I want someting that is easy to set up and then I can forget about it and it will run easily enough and restore in emergencies easily enough.

The server we are planning to order will have 3 x SCSI HD's and RAID 5 (i think)

Your comments would be much appreciated.

Oh, the 3 HD's will be 36GB each, so we won't have much data to be backed up really.

Thanks

Normally, the difference between basic and enhanced is related to the options such as the number of workstations and servers that can be backed up as well as open file agents...etc.

You may want to consider visiting the Veritas and Yosemite (tapeware) websites to review the products.

Most tape backup software companies allow you to use their software for free for 30-60 days to see if this fits your needs.  Consider downloading the Veritas 9.1 and Tapeware and test each of them.

When picking tape backup software, here are some things to look at:

1.  Oerating system support (Netware, Linuix, Winodws..etc)

2.  Open file / Database agents

3.  Data verification after backup  (always use data verification after backup).

4.  Ease of use

5.  Disaster recovery

Just to Throw my .02 in. I just did an eval on a handfull of back up software titles and I found that for newer people that are looking for a really good software try Bakbone. It will work on pretty much any platform and they have the ability to handle small offices up to in my case a large enterprise. Check them out at www.bakbone.com Very easy to use and very robust to grow with your business.
