Windows server 2003 not finding DAT device

We have Poweredge 1650 server with DELL ROMB raid controller installed. We have installed a Sony SDT 11000 Dat Drive on the external connection of the AIC 7899W U160 SCSI controller on the system board. The system is showing two SCSI channels with different Bus IDs and the Sony is showing up on Channel #1 with an ID#1, which means there are no conflicts with the hard drives that are on channel #0. The Dat drive is also powering up successfully.

The problems appear when we look in device manager for the DAT drive and nothing appears. There are no 'other devices' without drivers and there are no tape drives listed. Any suggestions?

Thanks

When you configured your onbrd scsi controllers w/ the ROMB are both channels in a RAID mode? I dont recall if that system board is capable of splitting the channels for RAID/SCSI. If both channels are in a RAID mode you will need to move the tape drive onto a seperate scsi controller.

found this in the server docs:

Embedded RAID Controller — Both channels A and B have the same settings.

so if you are running a RAID array you must move your tape device to a different scsi controller.

Thanks for the information. I have just looked in the setup and you are right about not being able to split the channels, so it looks like another controller is required.

Thanks
