Yosemite backup problem

PE 840, PV 100T DAT72, Yosemite 8.1 If I ID the media in the drive, the job works. If I format the media, it goes 50% and then gets error 4038-Device not ready. The scheduled backup gets Error 1401-Please insert compatible media Driver is Dell, Inc. 1.5.0.0 6/12/2003 The drive worked initially - probably for a couple of weeks. I have shutdown and powered back up to reset things, but that does not help. Do I have a bad drive? There don't seem to be any new drivers available. Further info: I ran the X-talk diagnostics. The tape drive passes with flying colors. However, the diagnostic left the tape in an apparently unusable state. I now get the message: Error 4305: Block size is larger than the maximum allowed transfer size. I can't format it. What to do? These Yosemite errors are most annoying, because there is nowhere an error list that might help one figure out what action to take. Message Edited by lindacjones on 06-29-2007 10:38 AM

Anytime you use xTalk or a new tape with Yosemite, you will need to format the media first or Yosemite will not be able to use it. After formating the media, you need to make sure that it is added to the proper location under media that the job is pointed to look. You also mention that it will not allow you to format the media. What error does it give you when you attempt to format it?
