Thanks for this. I saw those pages, but links to eBay and guesses at what might be compatible with a particular system aren't really the premier support I was hoping for from Dell! I still don't see anything besides the take-a-punt options?
and holds 2X drives whereas the 3.5 bay holds only 1 drive. You can find this part on amazon and ebay etc. You will also need the sata power splitter N701D
N701D SATA POWER SPLITTER and 2 sata data cables. DC094 and M8865
which has the mount points of a standard 3.5" hard drive, and . It holds two 2.5" devices stacked. Its not compatible with all dell models however because its larger than R494D.
The usual Dell roundabouts continue. I get PMs telling me to contact my sales contact and they'll be able to sort it. Of course, they can't.
Apparently the caddy is called a DYTGC, but they can only provide a second hand one, and cannot provide a riser to go with it, which makes it useless. They don't appear to be able to supply _that_ part at all.
Sorry to have to tell you Lapajgo that I never did get to the bottom of this. Lots of nice words from Dell but in the end they couldn't deliver. Buying 'highly supported' products like Precision is pointless when they're not....certainly will be looking into alternatives in future.
I am super vexed about it as well. Did your 3260 come with a PCIe raider card? Mine came without neither SATA parts nor the PCIe raiser card - totally useless.
We buy hundreds of Dell machines a year but you've got to be aware of their limitations... Of course I got the robot again asking me for Service Tag and eventually a human will make contact, but I've done this arc before...it ends up having to talk to sales, who can't find the part and then eventually giving up.
Eventually these parts will turn up in the aftermarket channels and I'll get them from there, but that's not a great look for your premium product line.
I've been Dell Optiplex evangelist for 2 decades now, I have at least half of dozen Optiplexes(I didn't even minded capacitor gate) and I bought a Precision compact because of "the promise of a PCIe port" - what a BAIT and SWITCH, so disappointed - incomplete RAM support, SATA unusable, PCIe unusable as well. As a Network DataCenter Architect I am not sure I can suggest this product.
That's an interesting definition of profanity you're using there. I suspect the problem is much more one of someones prejudices. For reference, the Cambridge Dictionary provides a definition of the expression which does not refer to any any profanity at all, nor does the Collins English Dictionary or Vocabulary.com.
So apparently for the penny-pinchers at Dell getting the rest of the parts is considered ... drum roll ... "upgrade". Imagine that. They told me to call 1800-288-4410 for those parts.
Hmm. I did this loop. It took a long while but in the end, if I remember correctly, they could offer the plastic caddy second-hand (i.e. 'refurb' or similar) but couldn't supply the riser.

Thanks for this, but I need a solution for a 3260, which takes 2.5" drives. See https://www.dell.com/support/manuals/en-uk/precision-3260-workstation/precision_3260_cff_sm/2.5-inch-hard-drive

Dell might as well just weld the case shut
