Bios booting order Precision t7400...

My Precision t7400 has a pair of x5492, Bios is A11, 48 g total memory. It has 5 drives and two optical drives.

My question has to do with the bios and the inability to change the boot order. The boot selection is greyed out and the boot order is only a default order I'm not able to access and change. I know I can hit f12 as it's booting and select which boot device I want but it is stuck as to the default. In order to change default boot, I have to swap cables around....?????     Anyone have a clue how to fix?

You sure you don't have any password set in the Bios ?

I'm not sure what to say. Maybe a bios reset ( with the hope that it would not cause more problems )

Yeah I'm sure ...I'm able to change every other options available to be change, except the default boot order. I also have a dell t3400 and a dell 490 and a dell 690 all of which I'm able to select boot sequence on left side in bios and using keys u or d to change the boot device order. On this the T7400 selecting boot on the left does nothing.....only way to change boot order is to swap data cables around...also it will default to boot from usb before dvd so I have to remove any usb drives before booting...

I'm thinking I was able to change boot sequence until I was trying to install win xp 64 and changed the sata from ahci to ata... after that I was unable to change the sequence....I have since put the sata controller back to ahci but to no avail.....

Hope someone has been able to solve this because I have the same problem. I have been trying to install windows 10 pro but keep getting stopped at “ SAFE_OS phase with an error during BOOT operation” and this code “0xC1900101-0x20017”.  Before I could go into the boot screen and change the order, now the list is shorter and greyed out. I have screen shots of before and after just need to figure out how to post them if interested. And, still can’t load windows 10. I have stripped the box down to a generic video card and that’s it. Thank you for any help.

This is after changes and with setting the bios back to default it’s still the same.
