Dell precision 3650 Tower PSU upgrade concerns.

Good morning, I just recently acquired a used 3650 Tower and I'm looking to upgrade the power supply in it for gaming to gift it to my wife. My concern is that the ORIGINAL psu that is already inside has a regular motherboard atx 24 pin, but the wires dont populate all 24 pins. My question is, will a standard NON DELL PSU work with its STANDARD atx 24 pin? Or simply, can I put any old off the shelf psu in this 3650 and expect it to work? I've scoured google looking for answers to this and nothing is helping. I'd like to avoid having to get a new motherboard to avoid this issue as well.

And yes, I've seen this post below, and no it doesn't help because the OP didn't specify if it properly worked, only other psu's fit.

All we, I can tell you is a standard ATX PSU will work with Dell Precision 3650.  Other users have validated the compatibility support as well.

For example, the OP from this thread just upgrade PSU with a Corsair to support graphics upgrade to RTX 3090  https://www.dell.com/community/en/conversations/precision-fixed-workstations/whats-the-best-gpu-i-can-stick-in-my-precision-3650/696a7544dd7dc95c26933a0f

Yes, there is possibility.  But, it won't be because of bad advise.  It could be users mistake because not everyone possess the same skill set.  Or, it could be from faulty hardware.  For example, look up for incident of Gigabyte PSU explosion causing 750w and 850w power supplies being recalled.

Please understand, while power users and contributors assist and help out with solution in our best faith, we also do not take responsibility if something goes wrong.  Therefore, be cautious when working on your motherboard.

Hi there, will I have read that you can use a Dell RGJRX or a Corsair RM780e, or maybe an RM1000e for your 3650?
I really can't tell you for sure,.   Hope this info tip helps.
