Dell Precision T3600 - Can't install Linux or Windows anymore.
Hello
I updated my T3600 to the A18 BIOS some days ago and since then I've not been able to install a Linux operating system (Ubuntu, Debian, CentOS) under UEFI. I've downgraded the BIOS from A18 to A17, A14 and I'm currently on A13. Still no joy.
I've installed Ubuntu and Debian many times on this machine in the past without an issue. It fails with errors such as 'grub-efi-amd64-signed' package failed to install into /target (ubuntu error) and similar errors for Debian 10 and CentOS.
It's as if Secure boot is enabled?? Yet I don't think this PC supports it.
Tried multiple drives, multiple BIOS settings and multiple installation media's
*Update
Tried installing Windows 10 LTSC and that also failed.
Any ideas on what is going on?
Pre A18 all was well
Regards
Andrew

That's weird!
I don't know if secure boot would cause that with regards to Ubuntu, my T3610 with A19 bios supports secure boot, and Ubuntu installs without needing to disable secure boot.
T3600 and T3610 are of course different systems though so not sure how much that info is worth
Have you tried resetting the bios? (and even removing the battery, replacing it even, I've learned on this forum that low battery can cause weird errors)

Hi
Yeah, It is weird...
I did remove the BIOS battery and left the motherboard unpowered for an evening just to make sure. Then I replaced the battery with a new one... although I am now thinking that maybe the replacement is not so good.
One other thing I've noticed.... When I power the PC up the time in the BIOS is an hour behind?
Hmmmm
Does anyone know if there us a way to completely reset the BIOS back to original factory settings?

T3600 Owner's Manual
One set of directions pasted from first link:
Clearing the NVRAM and ESCD Settings
When the ESCD contained in the NVRAM needs to be cleared, this can be accomplished by manipulating the RTCRST (Real-Time Clock Reset) jumper on the system board. Once the jumpers are correctly set and power is supplied, the BIOS will reset.
RTCRST - Clears NVRAM. The NVRAM will be cleared when the jumper is closed (use the jumper from the password bridge (PSWD)). To properly clear, AC power must be applied (not necessarily turned on) to the system for about 10 seconds while the jumper is closed.

Every time I install ubuntu the clock in the bios gets messed up by one hour, supposedly because linux assumes that time should be stored as UTC time, while windows thinks it should be stored as local time.
Do you have any sort of raid card?
