Need Help Regarding my Dell Precision 390 (WiFi Disabled?)
My computer is a Dell Precision 390 Series, which I recently found out I had in my basement. Hooked it up to a monitor, and then booted it up. It seems to work well, but the only issue is that "Wifi is disabled."
First of all, the Dell is for some reason running Chrome OS from CloudReady. I updated the Chrome OS up to date yesterday, and it says that Wi-Fi is disabled with an X on the wifi icon. I cannot turn WiFi on. I try to connect to my network with the correct creditentials, but it always says unknown error. I am wondering what the issue for this could be. Is there no preinstalled wifi on the Dell Precision 390 -- does it only accept ethernet until I upgrade it? If I am lacking a Wifi capability, what ways could I add capability? If you know a way, please link me the exact item that I can order. If there's more information you need, I will be willing to give some. Thanks for the read in advance.
Edit: could it be possible that I need the WLAN drivers in order to get wireless capability? If so, how do I do it on a Chrome OS Dell that also has no internet?

Hi @Moderig,
Most likely to be lack of WiFi module while Dell Precision 390, a Core2 type workstation manufactured since 2006', did not comes with a WiFi module by default.
Fastest and easiest way to fix it: find a generic USB WiFi adapter
Check this post out with the same problem as yours and he get it fixed by an USB WiFi stick without concerning any driver issue:

And I'm checking which option to set signature like yours.
It would be cool to have one like "I'm a newbie of Dell, a HP home user, and a Lenovo employee. But I own a T5600!" XD

Hi @bmcowboy,
Images show after approved by Dell moderator. Beforehand, they appear as a triangle. Images, tables, and tags like "@bmcowboy" only show when signed out. If you want to see images and are already signed in - sign out and when the Dell Community homepage appears, use the back arrow to go back to the page you were on.
When I was new to Dell Community, sometimes a post would have to be approved my a moderator. Same if the system thought I did too many edits to a post. Meanwhile, the post would just disappear. It was harder being a newbie.

To set signature - Tap avatar > My Settings > Personal > Personal Information. You'll see box that says "Email" under "Personal." Tap box to change to "Personal Information." Scroll down to "Signature."
I always have a hard time remembering where to find it, but there it is. :Smile:

Thanks for the response. Since then I have bought a USP Adapter, and by all means it should have worked, but this computer is running Chrome OS. What I researched was that there are little to no USB adapters for Chrome OS (I didnt find a single compatible one), meaning that the one I bought was also not compatible, something I was unaware of. What this means is that I can only likely install an internet card from the inside of the computer, or use ethernet (which I cannot.) Any suggestions or links to models of internet cards compatible with the Precision 390? I have found not a sinlge one compatible with the 390 myself likely due to the age.

Just afraid that spending on another internal PCIe WiFi card may make no difference.
Alternative to Chrome OS, will you consider Android-X86? Both base on Linux and able to install apps from Google. However, Android-X86 seems got a larger range of supported hardware. I personally tried to install Android-X86 on a ThinkPad X61, IdeaPad S10 and a HP Core2Duo type PC (really can't remember the model of this big old buddy...) with a TP-Link USB WiFi stick. All good with WiFi connection.
If you got spare hard drive, you may give Android-X86 a try. But of course if you are actually running ChromiumOS for development, it would be another story.
