This PC is inside an exhibit that runs a program with 'minor graphics'/'video.'  This is a i7-10700, P1000, Hyniz PC611 512GB NVMe, Win10 and 16GBRam.  The system froze so I needed to manually reboot, stuck my hand in the cabinet and felt the heat coming from the rear.  Later I took a thermal gun and read 125 degrees F at the exhaust port.  The setup and spec's say: Operating temp range: 32F to 104F... Does that mean these PC's are running out of spec from the factory?!?

The best option is to upgrade to the 80 watt heatsink and see if that is enough. I upgraded to it in preparation to putting in an I7.  There is room in the 3240 Compact for this Xeon Montara series cooling system assembly. If you have the compact there still not be enough cooling for an I9. I  gave details on this in another thread.

@wlsinwi how's noise/heat been once you changed to the 80w HSF? Have you also updated bios to 1.7.1 or later?

Allegedly this version introduced a change which reduced fan noise, though not sure in practice what that means with respect to either baseline noise and heat, reducing the amount of fan spikes by maintaining a higher minimum speed, etc.

This seems to be a bigger problem then anticipated, my 3240 is running Windows 11 and running multiple PLC programs each with their own seperate GUI, I questioned the thermal issue but never addressed until now. I have not gone to the extent of tracking temps but when the PC is hot to the touch, that's a problem and question the design. In an earlier post someone had mentioned larger heatsink, and this could help but space being the deciding factor. Please tell us that Dell is addressing this issue, with this many issues, it should be, in the design stage. Did the testing reveal this problem, if the re are setting in the BIOS p[lease let me know.

The 2nd, 3rd, and 4th posts in this thread don't mention OS.  It would be interesting to know if OS makes a difference.

Not sure if it'll go anywhere, but I did escalate the issue.

Upon a little further research, the 3240 goes back to 2020 and may not be in production anymore.  Looks like the 3260 took it's place.
