Precision 3620 not compatible with Dell Command Update 4.x? Is this an oversight?
Our Dell Precision 3620s stopped updating the DCU beyond Dell Command Update 3.2.x. Other model Precision(s), Inspiron(s) and Latitudes have updated to the latest version (4.2.1). Searching the documentation for 4.x compatible systems one finds that the Dell Precision 3620 is missing as a compatible system. Why?

Based on the other Precision models listed as compatible it seems that the 3620 should be compatible. And in fact if you install 4.x manually, it appears to work as it should - except it will not update the DCU itself.
Any chance this is a missing entry in the database of compatible systems and the oversight can be corrected?

@DELL-Chris M this or something like it should be a sticky at the top of many forums because it applies to more than Just precision models.

You could ask @Dell-BradL moderator if there is a way to address this but I do not think there is due to the age of these models being EOL EOS. Windows 7 / 8 are also EOL and windows 10 is EOL in 2025 which is not that far away. We are up to 11th Gen Intel processors now and your models are 6th Gen which is why they can run legacy OS like windows 7 and do not REQUIRE 64 BIT windows 10.
Not supporting older bios and hardware is being forced by Microsoft.
This is a known issue with INTEL and AMD and NVIDIA etc getting onboard with 64 bit only, UEFI only, Windows 10 only.
You may not like that and you may think its Dell's issue but its not.

The Dell 3620 spec document is from 2015 six years ago.
Current Dell command requires CLASS 3 UEFI Bios.

Enterprise support and SCCM support and Open Manage Support and Dell Command support is a contract. You can even get an onsite 24 x 7 x 365 support engineer.
The problem with EOL EOS systems is that they go from 4 hour recovery response fix to Best Effort with no guarantee of resolution.
If they fix it or not under this scenario you still have to pay for the support. Microsoft support professionals will make best efforts to resolve your issue, Microsoft cannot guarantee to resolve all issues, due to the diversity of our customers’ computer configurations. How old a system is and when bios updates are issued has nothing whatsoever to do with Dell Command Support.
None of that is free and None of that is supported on the USER Forum. My enterprise and My clients have this support.
I also have access to Pro Support 24 x 7 x 365 online and by phone.
I don't actually pay for any of this. The Dell support engineer contracts are 3 persons for each 8 hour shift and the contract costs $250,000 per year. Onsite engineer costs even more.
Microsoft also supports such things but they too are not free.

System Design Life cycle is 5 years max. Dell does not support all models all years all os indefinitely. This is a legacy model that also allowed 32 bit os and windows 7 32 bit.
It may be that the bios and chipset and other Items are not going to be updated on such an old model.
Even the Precision 3640 is depricated now aka its No longer sold its obsolete.
This is Microsoft's doing as well as the 64 bit windows 10 only and windows 11 only coming very soon.

Several points.
1) Thanks for pointing out that Dell only monitors as moderators - I was hoping that some attention would be given to this issue by Dell personnel. I guess maybe not.
2) You might be interested to know that Dell released an update to the BIOS of the Precision 3620 yesterday. They clearly still support the system. One of the reasons we buy Dell is their phenomenal long life/reliability of their commercial systems and their continued (non-warranty) support.
3) Many older systems are still compatible with the 4.2.x Dell Command Update. I am trying to point this out to Dell in the hopes that they will see that not including the Precision 3620 in their database of compatible systems might be an oversight.
4) I appreciate your speculation on why but I was hoping for more than educated guesses (of which I'm also capable.). Sorry I was hoping for someone from Dell - I guess I should have spent a few minutes reading what the community is for besides helping each other.
