Precision 5860 - USB stops working

Is anyone else getting this error intermittently with 5860 workstations:

All USB devices stop working when this error comes up. Only way to fix it is by restarting the computer.

We can still log in to the computer remotely. We checked device manager and this unknown device comes up:

We updated all drivers and BIOS from the Dell website. We also replaced all the USB peripherals. No difference.

I can't anymore but if you can install Bios 1.1.16 and make your computer keep it, the issue seems to happen less often. I have several devices where this is happening for my users. Most reports came when we went to Bios 1.1.17 which does not allow you to go back to 16. We are now on Bios 2.0 where you really cannot go back due to the security updates. Alas, the issue is still happening a lot. I have an opened case with Dell. No alternative or resolution. Perhaps if more users open a case Dell will start paying serious attention.

This is a known issue with this model the only thing that fixes it is installing a separate USB card and using that for USB instead. Dell is working on a fix but I don't know when that will be released.

Hello,

seems to me an issue with the motherboard, you already checked all the rest. Time to contact prosupport to discuss with them.

If you want to rule out 10000% windows , try to run the pc from linux (live distro or ) for 2 or 3 days. Or you could try an alternative version of windows as a test bench ( 11 , if you have 10 installed  , or viceversa ,  or even windows server ) for a couple of days

Thanks MidasWish and xponentia. Your input matches our findings. Our temporary fix is to disable the front USB ports in the BIOS. The crash never happens if they are disabled.

Any update regarding this error? I also have a number of Precision 5860's with this problem.
