Precision Tower 3620

Hey guys, I recently purchased a Corsair rm850x for my precision 3620... I also used an adaptor cable to connect It to the 8 pin on my motherboard as the PSU unit only had a 24 connector.

When I turn on the machine , the power light keeps blinking orange .

Blinks twice, short pause then resumes.

Can you put back the original psu, to check that the mb wasn't damaged by the "attempt" ?

GPU connectors are not CPU connectors.

Dell 8 pin proprietary is VERY specific.

Hi! So just to confirm, I have an adaptor cable that looks very similar to that, it plugs into the 24 pin that came with the PSU, then into the 8 .. is that right ?

Or should I try the cable you suggested ?

Well, explains it.

"ATX 24Pin Female to for DELL Optiplex 3020 7020 9020 T1700 Server Motherboard 8Pin Male Adapter Power Cable"

but you have a 3620 . Dell is proprietary, and things change between new series... i think you got lucky at not damaging anything.

No, and

"

Features: Convert standard ATX power supply (up to 1000w) 24 pin power connector to Dell 8 pin proprietary power connector.

Compatibility: Dell Optiplex 3020/7020/9020/5040/7040, Precision T1700/T3620, and other 2014+ Dell models using 8 pin proprietary power connector."

from another auction... so it hints that actually the cable you have should work

Maybe the cable you got is defected ?

Do you have a tester, to check if all pins work ?

The cable he is trying is not working and has no brand.

Moddiy cables work which is why I use them.

I think you forgot to input the cpu 4 pin cable of the new psu to the MB. This is the same mistake that I just made :).

For anyone looking for a cable; imo any cable with the same pinout with the images in this discussion would work fine but dont forget to check the pinout and the voltages.
