T7910 no hard drives found error
Hi, I have a T7910 workstation with LSI SAS 3008 12Gb/x SATA/SAS -SW RAID 0,1,10 bought 8 years ago and have 4 2TB hard disks installed. Last week it showed no hard drives found when I boot the machine and no SAS detected in BIOS mode. What could it be the issue? Does LSI SAS 3008 fail?

Hello,
just to rule out a possible issue point, how long ago was the cmos battery changed ?

Hi, Thank you for your quick response.
I didn't change it for more than 5 years. But I did replace the battery when I had this no hard drives found issue. And the issue is still there.

@Hubsuite Have you tried moving the card to a different slot ? ( to rule out that the slot developed a problem )

Cards in general can fail, but I think it happens more often in GPU's.
I'd try How to Perform a BIOS or CMOS Reset and Clear the NVRAM on Dell Computers
If that doesn't work, then try replacing the LSI SAS card.

@bradthetechnut is not a card, is integrated on the motherboard

It's integrated LSI SAS and the whole motherboard may need to be upgraded if it's LSI SAS controller issue.

Or a substitute card could be added

Thank you. Checked the link it's "9300-8i LSI SAS3008 8-Port 12Gb PCIe IT mode ZFS FreeNAS unRAID US". Is anyway I can check the compatibity with additional controller in my Dell T7910 model?

Well, dell indicated the LSI MegaRAID® SAS 9341-8i 12Gb/s SAS (6Gb/s SATA) PCIe controller as the optional in their own catalog , at the time
I suspect any 9300 -8i and 9300-16i will work, and probably any other variation in the 93xx range

Thank you. I will order one and give it a try. Hopefully no any data loss.

if you go with the same chip ( so one based on a 3008 ) probably will be the safest choice
