U2 SSD on PCIe 3.0 x16
Hi everyone,
I have a Samsung SSD hard drive, with PM1733 with PCI 4.0 x4 interface.
I want to ask if I use a U2 to x16 like attached model, and I'm asking if there will any performance gain.
Thank you in advance.
PS: I will use it in a T7910, and I know that the speed will be limited to PCI 3.0.

There won't be any performance gain from using PCIe gen 4 drive on PCIe gen 3 slot. But you will gain additional storage from utilizing an empty PCIe slot.

@Chino de Oro
Thanks for replying.
The question is : is there any performance gain when using x16 adapter compared to X4 adapter?
Thanks a lot.

@Chino de Oro
Hi Chino,
Many thanks for your reply, and i apologize for insisting.
I think I have to ask in different way :)
I have a Samsung PM1733 witch is a U2 NVMe drive (PCIe 4)
I want to use it in a a T7910 (PCIe 3)
I have two options:
1- Use the integrated SAS controller
2- Use the PCI adapter
Witch is the best option to get the max performance?
Thank you a lot.

Sorry for late reply. The best option to use Samsung PM1733 in a T7910 is on a PCIe adapter. A PCIe x4 or PCIe x16 adapter will perform the same as either will connect to 4 lanes. The drive max performance is limited to PCIe gen 3 from the CPU.
