Windows 7 on Precision 3630

Hello,

We have a Dell Precision 3630 tower that shipped with windows 10. We are trying to install windows 7 on it due to special applications that require windows 7. We have tried doing so with a bootable USB but found out later that the Precision 3630's BIOS does not support windows 7. Is there any BIOS version of the Precision 3630 that supports windows 7? I have already checked the Precision's 3630 drivers on Dell's website and did not find it there. I also saw that another user had a similar issue in 2020 and had no replies. Thank you for your help.

Best regards,

Ahmad Mansour

The issue is with your processor, Kaby Lake and later generations of processors do not support Win 7 operating system.

You can try to install your special applications with compatibility mode in Windows 10.

Otherwise, getting an older model with Windows 7 support such as Precision 3620.

    Hi.

I think BIOS is not the problem.

Newer system still can install windows 7 but just some of the system will have problem with the driver support. But I think in your case. When you are trying to installing the Windows 7 you probebly found out that the installer media does not have either USB3.0 Drive or NVMe drive or NOT UEFI bootable at all.

If this is the case try to use MSI Smart tool. This might fix your problem.

Here is the link for MSI Smart Tool User Guide.

Hope this will help you out.

I checked this earlier today and this seems to be the issue unfortunately. On the bright side, we have a 3620 on hand and we will try setting up on it. Thank you for your help!

    Dear John,

Thank you for your reply. The installer media I used has been tested on another system before and worked. Also, the media shows up on the UEFI stack and manages to boot; however, it crashes after a few seconds with an error thats about the BIOS not supporting the OS (I do not remember it fully). Unfortunately, I think the issue has something to do with the processor not supporting windows 7. Anyhow, I really appreaciate your efforts.

    Best regards,
