024-965 error on Dell 3100cn printer
I have an older Dell 3100cn printer and am getting this error and can not clear it. After much research it appears that when I push the loaded tray into the printer, the paper is not being lifted up by the springs in the tray to set off the sensor. The two plastic prongs in the back are there but for some reason they are not engaging with the tray to release the springs.
Do I need to buy a new tray or is there something else that I am missing?

I just had this problem where the printer was giving me a "load paper" error. I finally took a real look at it today. I had noticed 2 plastic pieces at the bottom underneath the paper tray that were loose. I summarized that the paper was not lifting up t0 the rollers and that these small plastic pieces had a part. The tray would lift when I tested it but noticed the tray would need to contract to load. These plastic pieces cause the tray to lift once loaded. I noticed one of my plastic pieces appeared to have a broken leg off but I was able to set it back in where it would trigger the tray to lift the paper to the rollers. I will just have to be careful when loading paper to not dislodge this in the future.
I live my printer nad have had it for 15 years or more. It has worked like a champ and was disappointed when I had this problem...was a pretty easy fix.
I will by Dell again but I am surprised this forum is not monitored by Dell tech support to assist with providing answers....

I had this error (024-965) for my Dell 6160cn and nothing would solve my problem. I eventually pulled my printer away from the wall and this solved my problem. The network chords were pressed against the back tray which stopped the tray 1 from fully closing, this prompted the error. Once I created space behind my printer the problem was gone.

I had already read that post, and that is not the problem. When you push the tray in normally, the paper is pushed up to be able to be pulled out of the tray. This is not happening so the printer thinks the tray is empty. I can manually push on the prongs on the tray that release the springs and raise the paper, but for some reason this is not occurring when the tray is inserted into the printer.
