1600N, 2 input trays, paper type?
We have a 1600n here, with two input trays. Using the internal web server or the display menu, I can specify 'Tray1 Paper Size' and 'Tray 2 Paper Size' - fine. But I cannot specify different paper types for the trays, since there is only a single menu item. So how can I use two different paper types then?

Well, I'd love to change it via OP, but I cannot. The OP paper menu goes like this:
As you see, while you can specify the paper format for each tray separately, you cannot do the same for the paper type. In our case, we have only one paper format, namely A4. But we have two different paper types, plain paper (in tray 2) and preprinted paper (in tray 1). How can I give this information to the printer? And how can I tell the fax identity to use plain paper to print incoming faxes? See what I mean?

But if it doesn't exist there, I'd confirm it with DELL by phone. Could you call them and see what they say?
I dont have Dell P1600 here, so I can't test it.

d3sp, thanks for your help so far. Tech supp called me back and confirmed that it is not possible to specify the paper tape for each tray separately. Instead, it is a global setting for all input trays.
Thus, the optional second input tray is just a capacity upgrade, nothing more. One could ask why they have implemented the paper type feature at all, but that is a different question.

Oh and the good news just keeps on rolling with this P.O.S MFP.
Don't you just love it how every possible feature that you would expect from this thing just happens to turn out to be an "Unsupported Option".
