1700n Driver Error "Memory could not be read"
After installing the latest round of MS updates all of my Win2K SP4 boxes are erroring out when ever they attempt to print to a 1700n.
Right clicking on the printer in the printers folders results in:
Function address 0x77fcb21d caused a protection fauult. (exception code 0xc00000005)
Some or all property page(s) may not be displayed.
The same machines can print to HP printers, and our Dell W5300. However, any attempts to print to the S2500 or any of the 1700n's fails completely.
HELP

Thanks for this thread - I was about to throw the printer out the window! I have uninstalled the 2 patches and the printer's working fine, but obviously cannot leave it like this forever. Has anyone released new drviers or patches to resolve this issue yet?

Hey guys, Dell doesn't want you knowing there are new drivers available. I'm told by the "Dell Community Forum Administrator" that I cannot even post the message they sent to me threatening me with exile from this forum. I am not under contact or NDA with Dell, I have no agreement with Dell not to provide you with info on how to fix your printers, and it's amazing how Dell feels they don't have a responsibility to fix problems with their own poorly designed drivers. I can assure you there are new drivers available and ones that have been available for WEEKS. Funny though that Dell continues to publish the defective Win2k drivers on their downloads page with NO notice that the drivers don't work on a fully patched Win2k SP4 system.
Note to Dell Community Forum Administrator: I did not post your message nor did I post any contract-protected information. As you will be unable to show a signed contract, NDA, or other agreement that we entered into with Dell saying we would not post this the information in this posting does NOT violate your TOS. Should you wish to contest this I recommend you get your legal department to call me directly and stop hiding behind anonymous e-mails with no way to follow up.

Ok, here's the solution:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/thankyou.aspx?familyId=591bdd85-b326-44b8-933b-c8cb8f07513c&displayLang=en
Dell claims it was MS's fault, but it's amazing how Lexmark had drivers so fast for their customers and Dell refused to publish the drivers for Dell customers. Furthermore, there's still no good documentation I've seen on Dell's site telling anyone that this fix is here.
I've had long talks with individuals in Michael Dell's (hey, Dell Community Forum Administrator, Mr. Dell's name is NOT a violation of your TOS, he's the head of a public company and it's illegal or as close to illegal as possible to tell me I cannot post his name) office who have stated they are concerned about the level of censorship in this forum regarding posting of Dell's corporate numbers as well as encouraging all of you to call and let Dell know you're unhappy. I've been threatened repeatedly by the Dell Community Forum Administrator to kick me out of the forums if I discussed their e-mails about them censoring my posts here but I've been assured by folks far higher up the chain that it won't happen as nothing I've posted is a violation of the law and public companies can't tell stockholders, of which I am one, that they cannot voice their concerns and encourage others to voice similar concerns.
I would still encourage all of you to call Dell and let them know you're unhappy with how they handled this issue, that it's taken 2 months to resolve, and in the end they don't even publish the link to the MS download on the download page for these printers. Here's the DL page for the S2500:
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/type.aspx?c=us&cs=04&l=en&s=bsd&SystemID=PRN_LSR_S2500&os=WW1&osl=en&deviceid=4151
It's amazing to me that Dell has a fix, a fix they didn't have to write, a public fix and yet they don't even let customers know about it. How is that acceptable customer service? Dell is a public company, they cannot hide behind Terms of Service that claim we cannot voice our opinion about bad customer service. Let your opinion be known that this fiasco won't be tolerated in the future.
Note to Dell Community Forum Administrator, before you censor this I recommend you talk to the folks I've been talking to regarding the level of censorship on this site. E-mail me and I'll be happy to give you their names and numbers.

fyi - I am having these issues with a 1700 (not the N) and tried installing the MS patch but it did not work.
I'll be purchasing an HP next week.
