And just today, a person using Win2k, and connecting to the printer by a share, did a Windows Update, and now when they try to print the application shuts down.
Even when you try to view the printers properties in "Printers and Faxes", it gives back an applicaiton error.
Yes, this happened to me yesterday. All the computers on my network did an update on Sunday morning. Everyone that was using that printer with the PCL driver on Monday would get crash messages when they opened a word file (when the PCL driver was the default). They would also get a crash message if they chose the PCL print driver from the list. If you use the PS driver it works fine. So far I have not called the "printer support" at Dell about the issue, I have just switched to the PS driver instead.
Unfortunately this does not work for the Dell LaserPrinter 1700. When you use the PS driver you can no longer print to the printer at all. When you use the PCL driver only the local pc can use the printer. All other pcs trying to print to this printer get error messages and in general flip out. Any other suggestions??
I am having the same problem with my 1700 printers after applying the update. I called Dell but they said they hadn't heard anything about this. Did you find a solution?
I spoke with Dell Customer Service and the only fix they had as of Friday was to roll back the update on all pcs that are accessing that printer. Not a great fix, but the Dell 1700 printer is working fine now on all networked computers. He also said to keep checking their website for the patch.
