If it is the same as my 5100cn's it is:

user name:          admin

password:            password

Hope it works

It actually turns out to be "4455" for this model. I'm still not sure where that information is in the documentation.

Wow,
How the (prohibited contect) did you find out this one ? I've wasted at least a couple of hours on this. I was going to browse the Lexmark web site as the next step ( or call support ).
Good post

From dell tech support, but they didn't know where it was in the manual either.

I am sorry to say that, but even though I really like the machine the manual is the worst thing ever !!!

Somebody worked hard to make it totally unusable.

Too bad.

I.e. The it wouldn't receive faxes despite anything I tried. Until I've found the advanced fax settings and the Rcv Disable (!!!) setting. Changed it to Off and it worked. Why is it there at all ? BTW not a single mention in the standard setup.

I agree with your opinion of the documentation. I was unable to find the admin password - 4455 - anywhere in there.

I will try your fix to receive faxes. Thank you.

From the manual:

Using Advanced Fax Settings

Your printer has various user-selectable setting options for sending or receiving faxes. These options are preset at the factory, but you may need to change them. To find out how the options are currently set, print the System Data list. For details about printing the list, see "Printing a Report".

Changing Setting Options
  1. Press Scroll ( or ) to highlight Menu and press Select ().

  2. Press Scroll ( or ) to highlight Advanced Fax and press Select ().

  3. Press Scroll ( or ) until you see the desired menu item and press Select ().

  4. When the option you want displays, choose the desired status by pressing Scroll ( or ) or enter the desired value using the number keypad.

  5. Press Select () to save the selection.

  6. You can exit from the setup mode at any time by pressing Cancel ().

One of the last options is

Rcv Disable.

Since it's the negative option I selected Off (On or Off).

Hmm.. good luck

Wouldn't you rather use the Read TFM method :-)

Where are the "advanced fax settings"? I am trying to set the fax to receive faxes. (Though I try to be patient with Dell tech support, I am slightly flabbergasted that a $425 fax won't receive faxes.)

Thank you! I found it at about the same time you answered here.
