1815dn MFP stopped communicting today Internal Error- please use the proper driver
I had this dandy 1815dn multifunction printer for 3 years and never had a problem until today. Today when tried to print I got the one page print out that reads
INTERNAL ERROR - Please use the proper driver.
POSITION = 0X49ALE (301598)
SYSTEM = h6fw/xl_image
LINE = 123
VERSION =SPL 5.24 03-27-2006
I tried the suggested fixes I could find by uninstalling my printer drivers and re-installing from the Dell Website, and still got the same message. I certainly hope there is an easy fix to this. Anyone have any ideas for me?
Thanks,
Stephen

Mine is doing the same exact thing.
Seemed to have started around the same time as yours also.
I don't see too much through Google on this issue either...

Hi Stephen,
Did you ever find a solution for this? My printer has started giving the same error this morning for no apparent reason!
Thanks,
Dave

Dave, My solution was to search for the original installation disc that came with the printer. Unfortunately I could not find it for months. In the meantime I had an IT guy from my BNI networking group help me and $100 later I had a printer that functioned but no longer scanned. I still have the Printer it is now sitting in my garage! I did eventually find the installation disc. In the meantime Office Max was having a sale on printers and we picked up a Brother 2270DW LaserJet for about $70 plus tax and an Epson Artisan 830 Color InkJet for about $75 we got the latter to do the scanning we need to do. It seems like a more efficient printer although I prefer my Epson Workforce6 600. The expensive part with epsons is the ink is expensive and there is no refill option. I just look for the sale days. Overall the newer scanner features work better than the paper port software which I found to be really cumbersome. My Advice. See if any vendors in your area have a trade in deal for exchanging your old printer. We got a rebate from officemax for an old printer which is how we got the Artisan at such a low price. Hope this lengthy answer helped.
