2330dn printer prints with smudges on left edge

2330dn prints with a small (4mm) toner smudge on left margin of page approximately every 9.5cm.  Is this a problem with the drum and should drum be replaced?

How close to the left side of the page? Can you print a blank page and see if the marks are still there?

The smudge repeats every 9.5cm on the very left edge of the page and is about 4mmx4mm in size....the marks are there on blank pages as well

That sounds like you have some toner that is on one of the rollers. Can you clean the rollers at all?I tried looking for a chart that would tell exactly where the problem was, but the service manual for this printer does not seem to have those measurements. But as it is on the very edge, loose toner is about the only thing it could be.

I will see if I can get at the rollers to check them out for loose toner. Much thanks for your assistance!!

Smudges on the paper is often the result of a leaking toner around the printer paper path. This can be solved by cleaning the rollers in the printer.

To do this, use a damp paper towel ato clean the rollers in side the printer. Wipe from side to side and move the rollers with your fingers and check if the paper towel is picking up the toner. Usually, the toner cartridge has to be removed to access the rollers inside the printer.

Thank you for your advise Isaiah.  I tried cleaning the roller I could see by removing the drum/toner cartridge assembly. ....still no luck.  I still have the smudges on the left edge of the page.  The distance between the smudges does not correlate with the diameter of the roller I cleaned.  Still wondering if this could be a drum issue.

I did a bit of reading about your problem. Something you may want to try is running heavier paper thru the printer a few times.

When you do print a page normally, do you get any smearing?

Are the marks in the same place on every page that you print?

I just finished replacing the drum I received today. This appears to have solved the problem. The marks were in different positions on the left edge of each page...but always about 9.5 cm apart. The circumference of the drum does seem to correlate with the distance apart of the blotches. I always appreciate the assistance I receive from individuals who care about helping others. I tip my hat to you all !
