3110cn MPF tray from mac os x
I am able print to tray 1 from my imac g5 via usb, BUT i can not print envelopes or 4"
x 6" photos using the mpf tray. Mac software - any of appleworks, pages or word for mac - does not send signal to the 3110 that a 'centre-feed' is needed. An envelope feeds through, but only return address shows up; the printing occurs as though for an 'edge-feed'. I think this is a deficiency of the 3110 printer driver for mac os x. Any ideas??
thanks

(hmmm...this doesn't come through as a link, so copy and past, I guess.)
I've only printed envelopes from InDesign.

The only settings in my print option that go through to the MPF at all are : under 'copies & pages' i select 'page handling" & then select 'custom settings' and add 'envelope #10' with appropriate sizing; then, back to 'copies & pages' menu and down to 'paper feed' and change 'auto select' to 'manual feed'. The other wrinkle is that in printer box, i shoose 'any printer' not '3110' as the 3110 option does not allow me to select 'envelope. I had not saved these presets, but now have and it makes no difference. I still get only the return address on the envelope in a bottom corner. It still thinks it is 'edge-feed' not 'centre feed'
Have you printed envelopes? Which application did you use?
in the special assistants of appleworks, if i choose the envelope option, after entering receiver address and then my return address, i get a window saying i should go to page set up and and select 'centre-fed' under paper style, but paper style does not show up in page set up. this is the option i seem to need, but it doesn't actually appear.
I tried apple support, and they found the same thing, concluding there was a deficiency with the dell printer driver.
Dell support simply says they do not support macs (in spite of the fact, the 3110 is advertised as being fully compatible with macs).
I like the printer, but am on the verge of returning it.
any further suggestions would be apreciated.
Thankstn

What settings do you use on your printer menu? I have been using MPF tray and driver specified as opposed to panel specified. The latter seemed not to help.

In terms of printer driver, I have done both - used the CD that came with the printer and then uninstalled and re-installed the driver from the same web site you mentioned. Still to no avail.
I can print the envelope info just fine from the MPF tray on an 8.5" x 11" sheet, but it does print out on the side of the paper as in an edge feed. That is the problem when i try an envelope, it prints as an edge feed, meaning it misses the receiver's address but it needs to print as a centre feed.
Unfortunately, I do not have InDesign.
Thanks

I selected an envelope template, opened Page setup, chose "Format for: Color Laser 3110cn" and "Paper Size: DL Envelope", then put an envelope in the MPF, and chose Print.
It printed as expected...(well, it wrinkled, but that's another story!)
So, I'm afraid I'm not much help, except to indicate that it _should_ work.
I do wish there was a bit more documentation for us Mac users. They clearly state Mac OS X compatibility in the specs, and the driver seems good, at least for me, but it's hard to find info!

you have been extremely patient and kind in your responses
when i use pages template, in page setup if choose format for: 3110cn, i do not get an envelope option- i get only letter, legal A4 & B5; however, i do get envelope #10 or DL if I choose 'any printer' in format window
if you have time, could you let me know what your print settings are in pages (cf mine in earlier reply) and menu settings on the 3110?
i do like the printer, but if i can not get it to print envelopes and 4 x 6 photos, i will return it.
thank you for all your time

My print settings are:
Paper handling: use document's paper size: DL envelope
Paper feed: All pages from autoselect
Printer features, media handling, paper settings: use printer settings
The printed report from the printer gives my settings as:
Default paper: Letter
If re-installing doesn't/didn't work, I'd build a custom page size from the page setup dialogue, followed by a custom print setup form the print dialogue, taking care to choose all the options, such as orientation and media selection.
But, again, this is odd, since these options were already there for me.

What I had done is uninstall from the dell CD - I had not deleted the 3110 from the printer utility.
As soon as i deleted it from the printer set up utility as you suggested and re-installed from the web site, it worked!
I am so happy! I really like the printer and now will to keep it. Now if we can only solve the wrinkling envelope problem.
Thank you over and over.

I seem to have no print option to select black/white printing as opposed to colour printing. If my document has any colour in it, the output is in colour. I can find no print option to change this to black/white. Have you encountered this?
Previously i had an epson stylus inkjet which had this option and several more.
I expect the dell printer driver is deficient in this regard. I haven't yet contacted dell support since they do not support mac.
thanks

In the ColorSync options there is a Quartz filter for black and white, and in the printer features options, under the Print Quality/Color feature set, I see a Color/Black output choice. I haven't actually tried these.
Are these not present for you?

the quartz filter is not needed, just the 'printer features' 'output color' set to black
thank you
