5110cn - how to set up fixed IP address for printer

How can I set a fixed IP address for my Dell 5110cn Color Laser printer on my network?

Currently I my router is assigning the printer an IP address, however, when I added a new network switch the IP address changed and I had to reinstall the printer drivers on all of my PCs connected to the network. I tried manually changing the Port IP address in the printer properties, however, I rec'd an error message that the port was in use.

I have my HP B&W laser printer on a fixed IP address lower than my DHCP address range set up on my router. My PC's had no problem finding this printer after the new switch was installed.

Thanks.

Hi Bud

The easiest way is to use the printers web interface. If you goto a PC that is currently printing correctly and look at the port settings, it will give you the current IP address. You can also use the frt panel on the printer also to find it.
Once you have the IP, type it into a web browser. It'll look something like this. Input your settings that you need and your done.
Sorry, I don't have easy access to a 5110cn at the moment but the interface is close...

Hope it helps

It's not really where you'd think it'd be :)

In the web interface:

Print Server Settings->Print Server Settings (tab)-> TCP/IP

If you are talking about changing the port IP address on the Windows client, that is a royal pain in the keester.  You can do it, but you are better off choosing the "Add Port" option, and creating a new local "TCP/IP" port for the printer instead of editing the existing one.  I am not aware of anywhere in Windows to manage printer ports except for within a printer's properties, and you get very little control in there.
