Hey ggoldman2, I am having the same issues. When scanning a PDF i get an unusually large sized file (7-8 MB) at only 300 dpi. When I change the resolution to 100 dpi, the image/document is not legible and the file size is still at/ or around (2 MB). Is there any fixes for this issue? Thanks in advance! Joel
Has anyone figured out how to change the All-In-One Center default so that it does not switch to auto-crop every time?
A work around for the other issue is a pdf writer called PrimoPDF. I use that to take the PDF generated by the Dell software, and convert it to another PDF with a smaller file size (an extra step, but at least it works).
Did any of you ever get answers to the huge PDF file problem? I can scan a single page of black and white line art at 300 DPI and get 25MB PDFs! This problem started when I installed the 946 on a different computer. FYI, I have Acrobat 8.0 on this computer. Any suggestions?
Never got any answers, but I found a work around. I now use Primo PDF. I basically scan as normal, then "print" out the pdf to the Primo PDF writer, and that shrinks the file for me. I'm not thrilled that I need to take another step, and my wife refuses to buy another Dell printer, but it does work.
I uninstalled and reinstalled the software from the disk and did not get in the way of a complete installation (i.e., I let it do "Automatic" bloatware install). It worked. I'm now getting 250K ish PDFs on the same documents that were previously coming out 25MB. They're clean and sharp - as they should be at 300 dpi. Apparently there's something in the bloated software install that's important. I notice (now) after the scan is complete a window pops up saying something like "AABBY Sprint 6.0 is processing your file", which is consistent with my old installation which works fine also. Give it a shot.
I have same problem with 968w AIO scanner. I used the enhanced search to add adobe acrobat reader 32 and did the complete bloatwear installation yet my pdf files from scans are huge (6M for a 3 page scan). I have ABBYY Fine Reader 6 on my computer but it does not seem to recognize my Dell 968w...which is set up wireless. Windows XP SP2.

Open the Dell All-In-One Center
Click on scanning and copying
Click on update the applications to send scans to
click on enhansed search
choose AcroRd32 and choose pdf.
Now it will scan to Adobe Acrobat Reader.
If you have an automatic feeder, it will scan each page and put them in one document.
