962 printer picks up both fax and voice calls.

I have a 962 all in one printer.  I have a DSL line so I have the printer and DSL line sharing the same phone line with a filter.  When I receive faxes or voice calls the fax answers them both.  according to the owners manual the fax should detect if the call is a fax or voice call and route it accordingly.  I have looked at other posts but nobody has the same printer as I do.  Is there any way that I can set the fax to pick up automatically if its a fax and ignore voice calls.  This is driving me crazy and I cant find anything about this.  When I am away I dont want to miss faxes or voice mails.

Thanks for you help

Looking at the on-line manual and it's faxing capabilites, I didn't see the reference you have to being able to detect what type of call it is.

However, it does have an option of connecting an answering machine, etc.  and depending on how you have it connected may determine if it sends the incoming call to an attached answering machine.

Otherwise it's like any other standalone fax machine that will answer any incoming call regardless of what type it is.

Thanks,

I finally got it working.  I set the answering maching to pick up the call first, this seemed to correct the problem.  The only draw back is now the answering machine shows a message and when I played the message I could hear the fax noise but the 962 did pick up the fax.  I wish the answering machine wouldnt record the fax noise too but since I can now receive voice calls or faxes I am not going to complain.
