962 with wireless print server

Question

I can't print to my 962 through my Linksys wireless print server.  I asked Dell to send me the appropriate wireless print server when I purchased my 962 two weeks ago.  I can print to my HP Laser Jet so I know the print server is set up right.  It will install the 962, but can't communicate when I try to print.

Hey,

If this printer has the same problem as the A960, it's because you must have bi-directional communication enabled in order to print. Wireless print servers in the US do not have bi-directional communication enabled and cannot perform the two way communication required by the printer. I've had an A960 for over a year and I have to plug the thing in every time I need to use it. I just got a desktop set up so I'm going to try print sharing and see if that works. I'll let you know.

Then why is Dell selling wireless print servers for the printer?  I specifically asked if I could use a wireless print server for this printer.  That's why I bought the printer and why I paid an additional $100 plus dollars for the server.  The server is useless and a waste of money if I can't use it.

The Linksys Wireless Print Server will not work with the A960 for sure (or the 962) because it does not support bi-directional communication. You need to purchase the Dell Wireless Print Server 3300 because it is the only one that will allow bi-directional communication with the Dell software (I just read a little bit more about this print server). Unfortunately, the print server from Linksys will not work. It is fortunate for you however, that the 3300 print server will work with the 962, I'm left out in the cold because I have the 960 which does not offer a compatible print server. Perhaps I will buy the 3300 print server and test it on the 960.

If you bought your Linksys print server less than 30 days ago, you should be able to return it for a full refund. I did so with 3 different wireless print servers before I realized nothing on the market would work. You can then use the refund to buy the 3300 print server. Check out this link:

I have a Dell 3300 print server and have spent 18 hours so far trying to get it set up to print on my 962 without any luck. it keeps saying " unable to communicate with the printer". If it was'nt so expensive it would be in the trash can. I'm still trying but now am unable to load the drivers into the print server via the usb cable. I'm really getting to the end of my tether. If I ever get it to work, I will let you know.

I have had the same problems.  We spent well over 15 hours trying to get it to work and as of yet no luck.  You are not alone.

I tried another laptop, installed a wireless card and installed the print software and initialized the Dell print server. It worked first time. I then purchased another wifi card and installed it in the original laptop. All systems go. It seems the card was at fault. Good luck with yours.

I have an airlink 101 wireless print server and the dell 962 printer.  It works to print most of the time but rarely, rarely to scan.  I'm not much of a techie, but it seems to me like the printer driver has a mind of it's own and I can't get to the print/scan utility when I try to open it.  It's weird, but it works every once in a while, so it seems to be a software/printer driver issue.

More than likely, It's the printer, not your server. I like Lynksys servers. They work great. Just not with Dell products. Sad. Shame on you dell!!

... But I bought a Dell server for my 964 AIO over a year ago.

I can, for the most part , probably get your printer working wirelessly. If you make a new post, because sometimes this gets to be lenghtly and with other information here I may confuse everything.

Please make a new post with the information that you have a 962 printer Desktop XP and using an Airlink 101 print server.
