964 printer won't install on Vista 64 bit

I assume this is a Dell printer as I looked up a 964 printer listed as made by Dell. I also looked found no 64bit drivers for it. Can you tell by looking at the printer who made it since Dell simply has them made elsewhere with the Dell name added? Have you gone to the Microsoft Updates page with the printer connected? MSU has been very good at seeing and finding drivers that work for many types of hardware.

Yes a Dell printer and no I couldn't tell who made it other than ... made for Dell and made in China .

I found the Vista 64-bit Drivers for the Dell Photo AIO 964 printer. If you need help installing the printer, please read below my signature and include the information asked for and I'll be glad to help you in the Printers Forum. I have a 964 Printer attached to a 3300 wireless printer adapter and have no problems.

Hi all im new so please go easy on me.

After a spending a life time installing my 3300 to work with my dell 964 & eventually getting the vista drivers to get it to load & recognise each other.

When I try to print anything it wont because the printer is not connected to computer via USB !!!

Should I have disabled the printer from my machine before installing the 3300 ?

Do I need to disable everything & start again ?

I have a problem, the printert  is connected to a XP pro 32 bit system.

Do I intall this driver on that system to make it work??? from the network.

Hari,

 

First, let's make sure your computer has the latest Windows Updates, especially.net framework, needed to run many applications and the latest Java.

 

Download and run this patch to completely remove the printer from your computer. Right click on the patch, left click run as administrator. Run the patch(A MUST on Vista Machines) until it prompts you to restart your computer.

 

Restart your computer.

 

Download the proper drivers.

 

XP Drivers

 

Vista 32-bit Drivers

 

All other drivers

 

Vista 64-bit Drivers

 

Install the proper drivers. You'll be prompted when to connect your printer(powered on) Please use a 5ft USB Cable or smaller. If the printer doesn't want to install, try using a different USB Port.

 

Please remember to install the latest firmware for the 964 printer.

 

 

As for scanning, if you have the disk that came with the printer, then insert the Printer disk and stop it from running. Go to My Computer and double click on it. Look for the drive with the Dell disk in it. Right click on it, left click explore. Look for the OCR Folder. In the OCR Folder, there is an Abbyy Folder. right click on setup.exe, that's in the Abbyy Folder and left click run as administrator. This will install the OCR program.

 

Scanning

 

Scanning using USB connection, open the Dell All-In-One Center, click on scanning and copying and scan from there.

 

Scanning wirelessly, use the scan buttons on the printer.

Thank you for the reply and you are fast.

Let me explain the situation clearly.

 

1.  The PC to which the printer is connected it  windows xp pro sp3, the printer works fine on this computer. No problems there.

2.  I have a laptop precision m4400 with Vista Premium 64 bit o/s.  On this I installed the printer driver for the Dell 964.  This laptop is connected via wireless. This printer is not identifying the printer which is on the other PC.

Need your help.

On the XP Pro machine make sure to setup the printer for printer sharing.

 

Then on the Vista machine, run the patch to completely remove the printer from your computer. You will need to right click and run as administrator. Let it run until it prompts you to restart your computer. Then restart your computer. Install the Vista 64-bit drivers I provided above, choose network, then choose the printer is connected to a host computer. If you do NOT see this option, then click on add printer and you should see this option. You may have to turn off the firewalls and/or make exceptions for the firewalls.

I use these Recommended Wireless Router Settings in my wireless router, I use channel 11. I always hated the fact of having another computer on to be able to print.

Thanks so much for the info above. I used it to fix my new HP Pavilion with Vista 64-bit pain operating system. I have a DELL 964 all-in-one printer and couldn't install it properly. I used your info to do it and it works just fine now!
