oldmillway,
Error 1203 is a very interesting error code. Here is what I found out about error 1203
Error 1203 is a very interesting cartridge error. It means your catridges overflow even from brand new catridges after a several prints or right after you refilled the catridges. Check to see if ink are smeared on the holder where the contact panel with the cartridge
Solution:
I use the klennex with a few drops of water to dampen and clean off those contact on the holder and my printer work again.
Then before you print anything, you should run aligned the catridges a couple times then run clean catridges a couple times.
Print the test page to see how it's look and way you go.
Be sure not to leave any debris of klennex on those holder contact panel.
Dell Series 7 ink cartridges have a sensor in them that cannot be reset. Article on refilling Dell ink cartridges.
Dell Series 7 ink cartridges can be purchased at Staples, Walmart or Dell's Website.

I did try your suggestion on cleaning the sensors. It was messy but looks good now. It still is giving me that message. Any other suggestions? These are refilled cartridges not Dell.
Can I reset the printer some how?
Thanks for your help with this.

Svava,
Refilled cartridges will always givge error messages and/or may cause the printer to function. A new Dell Series 7 cartridge will have the error messages go away and will allow the printer to work. The only way it will not work is if the Dell Series 7 cartridge has a bad sensor in it.

This solution does not help. My cartridges were quite leaky and coated with ink, I have removed and clean the printer cartridges and copper contacts, re-started the printer, and re-booted the who system. I still cannot print or copy or scan anything. The printer screen reads "Cartridge error, Error #1203, Consult User Guide" and I cannot print anything. The printer can't seem to assess how much ink is left in either the black or color cartridge.

I have tried everything suggested above but still no joy. I have installed new Dell cartridges but the system still comes up with the error code plus it tells me I am out of ink. Help!!!!
