ry doing a system restore to a date before u installed the windows update.

see that happens

those stupid windows updates.. they shud have a dinner with dell before releasing stuff.

my advice is to run system restore.

that patch not only cleans old traces of xp drivers, but also removes / uninstalls vista drivers as wel.. run that patch and follow everything that it says and then reinstall the software and lets see if we get that runtime error in vista again

i am currently searching for a solution for this..looking out for other users who might have had these issues..also looking into stupid vista and xp documnet for how to solve runtime errors.

do reply here as to what happened or if u found a solution. thanks!

I too am getting a lot of C++ runtime library errors running a new Dell 530 with Windows Vista trying to print on a Dell AIO 926. Do you know if the MS tool suggested in your referenced KB article, Runtifix.exe, works for Vista? Looking at the applicabilty list I get the impression that it is quite old. I have been searching for a fix for my AIO 926 printer slow start and slow print problems. Only after trying a lot of potential fixes have I started to get the C++ runtime library error messages. If have done uninstall, reinstall, updates etc with Dell printer drivers with no success. My info is that the patch/upgrade download for Vista printer drivers only cleans out old XP drivers. This is ironic since the 926 works great on XP but not on Vista. You seem to be knowledgable in this arena. Hopefully you can help me. RocketJMostly

I won't be able to try your fix for a while. It's not my computer and the owner is fed up with these problems.

Here are a few insights. They seemed to start after I did some tinkering with my ZA firewall, trying to resolve some slow start/print issues. I went in to the program control/components section and enabled all the files starting with dl. Maybe I did one that I shouldn't have. Who knows what all of those are anyway. Eventually I changed them all back to the way they were initially but I still get error messages. I haven't had time to go too deep into this area. It seems to be quite broad with lots of possible errors--I hope not.

I've tried system restores all over the calendar with no improvement

Not much help for now. More later

rocketJmostly :

i would suggest uninstallation and reinstallation of printer drivers..maybe that should solve it. and about ZA firewall , filename starting with dl_____.exe are usually printer files... u can check their location by just highlighting them and the location is shown .. if its a printer file , then its usually -- C:\program files\dell photo AIO 962 \ FILENAME.

my frank suggestion would be to uninstall and reinstall drivers....use the dell patch/upgrade to uninstall and use the driver file for vista available on support.dell.com to install them - u can save these 2 files on your cmputer and rename them according to your convenience.

one more trick: disable ZA Firewall before installing the drivers.. enable the firewall after u install the drivers... if u r still unable to print.. then u can go to ZA firewall options and look for which files are being blocked/one-way[inbound or outbound] access.please do reply as what worked out , thanks!

LOU1896:

u dint mention if u have windows vista or XP.

the reason im saying this is because if u have vista on your computer and if u have mcafee security center as the firewall program , then i have read another post about a runtime error in A960 printer which is being caused by mcafee . here's the link :
http://www.dellcommunity.com/supportforums/board/message?board.id=A940&message.id=24139#M24139

my honest suggestion for would be to :
1. run system restore to an approximate date when the printer was ACTUALLY WORKING FINE.

after u do this, if printer still doesnt work due to those runtime errors
2. reinstall printer drivers. BUT FOLLOW THE CORRECT PROCEDURE.

uninstall and reinstall drivers - but this time.. uninstall and reinstall using the latest files - they're on the support website-search by entering your service tag..

DELL has come with a utility called 'Dell patch/upgrade' to remove any previous traces of installed drivers- that file is only displayed when you select Vista as your operating system..its not displayed when you select XP as OS.. download and run the dell patch/upgrade - it asks u to disconnect the USB cable please do so.

restart computer.also download drivers by selecting XP /VISTA as your Operating system..run that file.
before installation DO NOT CONNECT THE USB CABLE RIGHT AWAY. during installation it asks u connect USB cable which is your cue to do so.
please do reply as to what happened. thanks!
