As for scanning, if you have the disk that came with the printer, then insert the Printer disk and stop it from running. Go to My Computer and double click on it. Look for the drive with the Dell disk in it. Right click on it, left click explore. Look for the OCR Folder. In the OCR Folder, there is an Abbyy Folder. right click on setup.exe, that's in the Abbyy Folder and left click run as administrator. This will install the OCR program.
I did exactly that and the scanner still does not work, it says downloading from the computer for about 30 seconds or so then go back to the menu. I also do not have or even see anywhere on my computer the AIO Icon to access from the desktop. It does not even show dell printer in my list of programs in the control panel .
I have a new Dell Laptop Studio 1555, it has Vista 64. The pronter is a Dell AIO 964. I have tried everything you have suggested several times. I have print no scan. I do not have Dell All in one Center. The Dell software is not shwoing up in the programs in the control center. The printer shows up in printers.
When I try to add the print driver from the file I downlaoded after it has been cleaned, it will not load. When I add the printer it gives me some kind of error. So this is what I did to get it to worek.
I cleaned, I then conneted my printer by USB and it began downloading the drivers I needed. I then got a message to insert the CD which I did. It tells me that I already have the drivers I need and do I want to update and I say no. So I let it install but not overwrite what I need. I am trying to get the software. I then go to the CD and open the OCR file to get the abbey folder and it installs something called Abbey fineReader 6.0. but it does not work either. So I can print but I cannot Scan.
I am not able to use the downloaded program for my
Install the proper drivers. You'll be prompted when to connect your printer(powered on)

Sometimes virus programs, security suites and firewalls can stop the printer from installing. Here's the instructions I used to install the Dell 964 Printer on my computer.
First, let's make sure your computer has the latest Windows Updates, especially.net framework, needed to run many applications and the latest Java.
Download and run this patch to completely remove the printer from your computer. Right click on the patch, left click run as administrator.
Run the patch(A MUST on Vista Machines) until it prompts you to restart your computer.
Go to device manager(right click my computer, left click properties, left click hardware, left click device manager)
Go to the USB Controller section and click the + sign.
Starting at the bottom, USB Root Hubs, and working your way to the top, USB Universal Controllers, un-install everything in that section.
Restart your computer. Windows will find everything again and correct the problem one. Please be patient. The new hardware wizard may work 3-5 minutes before it's done.
Install the Vista 64-bit drivers. Please use a 6ft or smaller USB Cable.

hillmill1,
Sure it is. .net framework can be gotten at Windows Updates.
If you read this article...
Microsoft .NET Framework Version 2.0 Error After Upgrading to Windows 7
All you need to do is disconnect the printer, run the patch and Manual Printer Driver Removal
Restart your computer.
Then download the Vista 64-bit drivers I gave you to download.
