Cannot print wirelessly from laptop to Dell 962 AIO

I went through the same problem - uninstalling, reinstalling etc.  What finally worked was turning off User Account Control. Hope it works for you.

How do you turn off User Account Control???

I already have "User Account Controls" turned off on the Notebook running Vista. I'd be thrilled with a simple solution, but I don't think that's it.

Download and run this Vista patch. It will remove the printer completely from your computer. Restart your computer.

 

 

Now go to drivers and downloads/select product/printers/select your printer. Download drivers and firmware.

 

Install the drivers, choose network and follow the instructions. When donw, then install the firmware.

 

 

Scanning

Scanning using USB connection, open the Dell All-In-One Center, click on scanning and copying and scan from there.

Scanning wirelessly, use the scan buttons on the printer.

Start/Control Panel/ User Accounts (Classic View) and click Turn user Account On/Off then remove Tick from box in next window and click OK

I'd like some clarification regarding your suggestion. Currently I have UNinstalled the AIO 962 software from the Notebook computer from which I cannot print. 

 

1. Do I REinstall that software onto the Notebook using the original CD (which does not have Vista drivers) or does the online driver software REPLACE the CD and contain everything require?  **I've seen other posts that seem to indicate that UNinstalling software that had XP drivers doesn't remove the drivers and some very "techy" manuvers are required such as registry changes are required to correct this **

 

2. Do the suggested downloads go on both my computers? ... (desktop to which the printer is connected via USB to the Dell 3300 Wireless Printer adapter and HP Notebook that I'm having trouble printing from wirelessly?)

 

3. If the suggested downloads also go on the desktop, does it go "right on top of" the AIO 962 software that is already loaded?

 

Other info that might be helpful in solving my problem:

 

... McAfee Security Center is running on both machines. Windows Firewall is turned off, so that only the McAfee Firewall is running. 

 

... The machines are not networked (I had no problem printing wirelessly from the laptop with my previous set-up using an older model Dell laptop running Wdws 2000 Pro without it being networked with the desktop. The only difference now is that the older laptop has been replaced with this newer notebook running Vista).

I'm glad you clarified what your setup is. I have a 964 with a 3300 and mine works flawlessly. The only time I have a problem is during electrical storms or power flickers. I just turn everything off for 30 seconds and then turn everything back on and everything works again. So please be patient and follow the instructions below.

 

Download this patch. It will completely remove the printer from your computer. Un-install does NOT completely remove the printer with Vista machines.

 

Now fix your wireless router.

 

Update the firmware in your wireless router. Make and model needed, manufacturers website.

 

Broadcast SSID(change this. It will make it easier to connect.)

 

Use WPA-PSK(TKIP) Secuity. Most devices work best with this type of security.

 

Mixed b and g mode(n if available)

 

Use channels 1, 6 or 11. Most wireless devices work best on these channels.(I use channel 11)

 

Save and exit. Power everything off. Wait 30 seconds. Power everything back on. Try and connect to the inter with your laptop.

 

Now setup to setup your 3300. You can either download and install the drivers from here or use the disk that came with the 3300. I used the disk on my Dell Inspiron B130(XP Home).

 

Insert the disk for the 3300. Connect the 3300 to the computer using the USB cable that connects to the printer from the 3300. Follow the instructions. Remember I have you change the SSID so anytime you change anything in the wireless router(SSID, Security, password, ect), it affects the 3300. Connect it to the printer when finished.

 

Now to install the drivers.

 

Download and install the drivers for each machine.

 

XP Drivers

 

Vista 32-bit Drivers

 

Install the proper drivers on each machine. Choose network. Click on add printer, select using wireless print server and follow the instructions.

 

Everything should work.

 

Install the firmware.

 

 

Scanning

My router is a Linksys WRT54GS 802.11g  and the last firmware update I did on it was 3/7/06 to V3.0

 

My current router setting is Broadcast SSID, WPA-PSK (TKIP) security, and Channel 6.

 

I'm ready to roll and get this problem solved!

If you give me the make and model of your wireless router, I'm give you a link to get the latest frimware for it, if I cana find it. If I can't find it, I usually get you to the point wherer you can locate it from the link I provide.

Linksys' website is located here. You'll need to know the version number for your WRT54GS. It will tell you how to find it.

I've followed your instructions up to the point of "Now setup your 3300...." I DID update the Linksys router firmware, but I did not change "Broadcast SSID" (I already had it set up that way and kept my SSID name), and I did not change my WPA-PSK (TKIP) passkey code. I DID change from channel 6 to 11. Anyway here's my question.

 

1. Do I really need to go through the set up of the 3300 again? Right now the AIO still prints from the desktop running XP that's connected with the USB via the 3300.

 

If I do need to go through the set up of the 3300 again, should I UNinstall the 3300 and AOI 962 software from the desktop first?

 

Last question: 2. Do I install the last firmware you suggested on both the desktop and notebook?

No need to reconfigure the 3300 since you didn't change the SSID or the security.

 

For now, just download the patch and run it on the Vista machine. The download and install the drivers for the Vista machine only. The XP machine isn't affected so you should still be ok.

 

Install the drivers for the Vista machine, choose network, click add priner, choose using wireless print adapter and follow the instructions.

 

Everything should work.

 

If it doesn't communicate then look for something called Microsoft Vista User Account Control. More on that from here.

I was on the brink; I had the "Print a Test Page" message, but alas, nothing ... and I mean NOTHING happened when I clicked to print the test page. No message or acknowledgment on either the notebook or the printer. Nothing showed on the print queue.

 

Adding the printer to the notebook didn't go well. I kept getting "Windows cannot connect to the printer. The local printer spooler service is not running. Please restart the spooler or restart the machine". I did finally find out how to restart the printer spooler, did that and restarted both the notebook and the desktop.

 

I'm going out of town for a week, so this project is sidelined until I get back home. I'll be back on the forum trying again then.

Press the Windows key and the R key at the same time. This will bring up the run command or click on start, click on run.

 

Type

 

services.msc

 

hit enter.

 

Look for the Print Spooler and make sure that it's set for automatic. Restart the service and see if you can print anything.
