Cartridge Error

I just received my A940 and when I installed the black and color cartridges it gave me a cartridge error (I think it said 050).  I read the manual and checked to see which cartridge was giving the error.  The black is fine, but now the printer is saying the color cartridge is missing, even when it is installed.  This is the cartridge that came with the printer and should be fine.  Do I need to order a new color cartridge or is there something else I can do?

Hello Lorale04

I am getting the same message, everything seems to work when I hit the continues button, but I receive this message at start-up and each time I want to print anything, I was wondering if you had solved this problem?  I have emailed the tech support, but it didn't seem to  help me, in fact it told me to come here to see if anyone else was having the same problem.  I hope you solved the problem and I would appreciate any information you could share with me.

I followed the manual and found out that the black cartridge was the one I was getting the error on.  I got a new cartridge and now everything is working fine.

Cor64vair,

Thanks for using the Dell Community Forums.

The next time it happens can you make note of the error code displayed on the printer LCD screen and reply to this message?

Thanks Lorale04 for answering, but mine is the color cartridge.

Thanks DELL-Mel for your concern with my problem.

The only time I get an error code is when I try to clean the print heads and it reads:  Hardward error: 0504. Otherwise, when I turn on the printer the display reads: "Color Cartridge Missing".  The printer prints great both back and white and color, but the display shows the color cartridge missing and doesn't show any ink level for the color but does for the black.  I have emailed Dell several times and tried each of their solutions with no progress.

I have deleted and re-entered the software, unplug and re-pluged cords, removed and re-installed the cartridges over and over time and time again with no change.  I don't know what to do anymore as I'm not a newbie with computers or printers.  I will try any ones suggestions if I haven't already tried it at least twice.

                                                                   Thanks for your

Cor64vair,

Well it sounds like you will need to contact technical support to have the cartridge(s)replaced.

Ok Dell-Mel,

I tried this and still no change, I'm starting to believe that it is the color cartridge or the printer as it seems that I have tried everything possible with the same results.

                                        Thanks for your ideas,

Cor64vair,

If you are still getting the error code try this and see if it helps

Remove both cartridges
Turn the printer off using the power button.
Disconnect the power cable from the back of the A940 for at least 30 seconds.
Reconnect the power cable and turn the printer on.
Reinstall the cartridges.

This seems to be a recurring problem that Dell needs to support.  In my eyes Dell needs to recall or automatically ship separate ink cartridges with each purchase of the AIO A940 printer.

I believe your only answer is to purchase or request Dell to replace your ink cartridges.  I was told this printer uses a new kind of ink that is to last longer.  Seems more wasteful to me.

I too just purchased this printer and have not printed anything but about 5 test pages so far.  All bled of black ink.  I am currently talking with a relative who also has the same printer.

Good luck,

TwoEyesAchin

Have you found a solution yet?  I'm having the exact problem and I too am not a novice. I believe Dell must have a bad batch of color cartridges! I'm finding it very frustrating. I would appreciate any advice.

The color cartridge was what was causing the problem,  I replaced it and everything works great.  If anyone is having this problem, change the cartridge.

Thank you for you feed back. I was assuming that it was a faulty cartridge. Did you get a replacement from Dell? I'm thinking there has most probably been many bad ones shipped out to unaware customers.

They sent me a new printer with new cartridges, I put the new cartridge in the old printer and it worked just fine.  Hope this helps you and all those that had this problem

TwoEyesAchin here.  It took a phone call to Dell Support.  They insisted I try an ink cartridge replacement first.  I agreed.  Not knowing they were going to charge for it.  It came and I still had the same problem.  So they agreed to send a replacement printer.  It came the next day!!!  Guess what?!  Not a problem.

Just takes persistence.
