COLOR INK CARTRIDGES

I have had this Dell computer & printer for several years.  Recently, I had a problem only with the Color Cartridges I bought. It seems as soon as the meter shows 1/2 capacity left, the colors printed are very bad.  I contacted tech spt and was told my printer has to be repaired.  Everything on the printer works fine, including the Black cartridge.  I uninstall the whole printer set up via the CD and it works fine for a couple of days and then it is back to not properly printing colors.  According to Dell, the color cartridge is not defected??? They claim I should have returned it within 30 days of receiving it....I bought the package deal with 2 color cartridges....how would I know if the cartridge was defective until I install it....obviously the second cartridge would not be installed to test it until I used up the first one.

On the shipping slip, there is a number to call Dell. Call them and telll them your problem with the color cartridges, they'll probably send replacements.

Since you negelected to tell us the printer model number, all we can suggest is that you try buying a replacement Dell ink cartridge at Staples or Walmart. If the color cartridge from Staples or Walmart work, then the cartridges you received are defective.

My printer is a AIO920.

Unfortunately, in Las Vegas there are not Staples Stores.

I went to Walmart and they claim they do not have cartridges for my Dell Printer, though it is advertised that Walmart carries Dell products.  I will contact the customer service dept of Walmart to get some answers on the conflicting information as to what they sell.  The main question I had was whether or not I was correctly advised by the Dell Technician as to the fact that since the Black ink works and the color does not, why would it be presumed that my printer needs repair?  Also, the "warranty" policy on  ink cartridges seems a little questionable as far as the notification period being valid when a person buys multiple cartridges and they are used after the 30 day purchase period.

thanks for your suggestions as far as Staples and WalMart.

I already have phoned Dell and explained the situation over the phone and in several  detailed emails.

This is where I was informed that I waited too long to advise them of the defected cartridge.  It is obvious that since I have a couple of issues such as the diognosis of the printer, the return policy and basically just having someone at Dell "LISTEN" to my situation without JUST SENDING CANNED EMAIL RESPONSES,.....I am fighting a losing battle.   I have two alternatives: 1.  get a new system  2.  risk buying another color cartridge and hope it works after it reaches 1/2 empty.

Since you stated in your first post that you've had the printer for several years now, if I were you I'd consider getting a new one instead of banging your head on the wall trying to diagnose the bad one. Particularly since the prices of a good quality printer are reasonable.

For what little it's worth, I use nothing but Canon scanners and printers. And the one time that I did need to call their tech support, I was connected with someone fluent in my language, and he could understand me and I could understand him too, without repeating in the phone.... "What did you say? Can you repeat that, please" ?

Hope I don't anger anyone with that....:smileyhappy:

I have come to the same conclusion about buying a new printer.  Though I am currently strapped for $$, I guess the cost of a few color cartridges would pay for a new basic printer.  I did not know that I could use a non-Dell printer with my Dell system.  Thanks

The AIO 920 Printer is a Dell Printer. It was made my Lexmark but made especially for Dell. You MUST use Dell Series 1 ink cartridges. They can be purchased at Staples, Walmart or Dell's website, so yes this is a Dell Printer.

That's the main reson for dumping the Dell printer and purchasing something more user friendly. Not much sense to being held hostage with replacement inks....:smileywink:
