Dell 1815dn Scanning Question

Hi, I have a Dell 1700n and am considering upgrading to an 1815dn, or purchasing a separate document scanner with an ADF. I have a big use for scanning in documents automatically with an ADF, however most scanners with ADFs in the $200-$300 range and even above have not received very favorable reviews. I was just wondering if someone could tell me what their experiences are as far as scan quality while using the ADF on the 1815dn, or offer some sample scans? Scanned documents must look very professional, just as if copied from a good quality copier. Thanks!

What are you going to scan?  There are 3 brightness and 3 contrast settings which can make most docs look ok once scanned however I have seen it struggle with pencil and light pen.  The 3115cn has lovely scan quality.

The 3115cn looks nice, but is also a lot more $$$. I did read one review on the 1815 that I had some trouble scanning light objects. I am planning on using it to scan records and documents that will probably need to be printed later and printed text documents that need to look close to original if I reprint them. Do you find that the scans on the 1815dn are accurate? I had an HP 3052 that I sent back because circles and objects actually came out distorted with other visual artifacts present.

It is a decent printer, but I think the scan quality will disapointed you.  In the UK you would have 30 days to get a full refund on the printer, so you can try it. Message Edited by Caked In Toner on 01-26-200704:12 PM

Thanks for the reply. I already have tried an HP 3052 all in one and returned it right away. It was a decent printer (the Dell 1700 was just a notch clearer), but the scanning and copying was aweful (distorted, washed out, bleeding, skewed, and inaccurate). I'm not sure I want to take another risk with another all in one. It seems like I should just purchase a separate scanner, but most of the scanners with auto document feeders have had terrible reviews unless you are willing to shell out a lot of $$$. There are a couple by Plustek I have been looking at, but there aren't too many reviews out there yet.

We have had 10 dell 1815s at our org. Almost all failed within three years. I would NOT recommend dell printers or scanners for heavy loads.
