Dell 2155cdn problems

Hello,

I'm experiencing following problems with this MFP but I'm not sure if this is real problem or just feature.

1. The default tray is set to A4 paper size. However, when a Letter size (or any other size different than A4) job is sent to the tray nothing is printed automatically. In this situation (i.e. printer announcing Letter size job and beeping - can be seen on menu display) I can do only following procedure to get it printed: I have to open the tray and close it back. The job is printed to A4 paper but still waiting to get printed. I have to cancel it after opening and closing the tray. I have configured the printer that it prints "nearest paper size". During beeping no other button works than Cancel one.

I tried to find some more comfortable way how to handle this situation. The problem for us is that we have to cancel the job manually after opening and closing the tray. Why the job is not cleared automatically after opening and closing the tray? The need to manually cancel the job with wrong paper size drives us crazy.

I am not able to configure the printer in a different way, for example: when wrong size job is to be printed user just confirms the nearest size (A4 for example), job is printed and cleared. I want to avoid the need of the manual cancelling of the job. Why only cancelling of the job works during beeping?

May be I have wrong configuration but I was not able to change the behaviour to more user friendly way. Our Czech Dell support was not able to help me.

 

2. There is no record of the sender's fax number for fax that is coming to us in the job log page. Our Czech support confirmed me that this can not be set: to see the fax numbers in the job log. I can not see the number even on job protocol (Remote station field show nothing on the printout).

Is that really so? If yes than it is really bad news. I find the sender's fax number very important especially in case of fax failure.

 

Any help/advice is highly appreciated. With these problems we find the printer very unfriendly and dissapointing. If these problems can not be solved our next printer will not be the Dell brand.

Hello sergesmit,

this behaviour is feature. Also my experience with Dell support is not positive.

We decided to solve the problems with Dell printers by chossing a different brand of printers.

I have exactly the same issue as you mentioned as problem 1.

For some reason the printer is requesting another format, even when it is setup only to use A4. During the job it is not possible to change the setting, only to cancel it. If you open the tray the job will restart and after 2 or 3 pages it is again requesting another format.

If you find a solution, I hope you can share it in this thread.

I was already affraid that this would be the solution. But good to know when we are going to replace this printer.
