Dell 5100 cn Pages come out gray

Several questions:

1. Is this Dell toner? (Toner is NOT toner..... the formulation of toner in genuine dell cartridges is likely NOT the same as what the local toner refill shop would use. Some 3rd party toners can damage the machine and this is one of the primary reasons your warranty is suspended, by most manufacturers, if you use 3rd party toner)

2. Is this problem in BLACK only, or do you have a gray shadow on your color docs as well?

3. Does this problem effect color in any way?

4. Did this problem start gradually, or suddenly?

5. What paper weight are you using? Heavier stock requires higher transfer voltages and fuser temps, which is adjusted by the Paper type settings. Improper paper type settings can cause repeat images.

6. When you say you "cleaned everything out"..... what specifically did you clean?

7. Does the internal Printer Settings page also carry this gray shadow?

Toner is 100% Dell

Black is the only one with the carry over.   If you print color with black, the black will carry over.  Other than that, color prints fine.

The problem came on all at once.  After cleaning the printer out, it worked fine for about 10 pages, then the printer went into recalibration and then the problem came right back.

The paper is a standard paper.

All rollers were cleaned.  They were removed from the printer, and blown out with air.  Also, the fuser overflow compartment was cleaned out as well.

What's the total page count on the printer?

Also, check the conditon of your ADC sensor. It's located right behind the BTR assy.

I would agree...... but was trying to eliminate the inexpensive solutions first.

Sure sounds like you need a Black Developer.

It is on order now.  Also, I did a firmware update.  Now there is a number 093-423 under the line that says printer ready.  I can,t find what that code is anywhere.  Any idea?

The ADC sensor is clean.  The page count is 40,500.  I did talk with a tech earlier today, and he said it could be a developer Assembly.  What do you think about that?

This means your Yellow toner is nearly empty.
