I disconnected the printer from the UBS port then ran the patch and shut off the computer. Started computer. Entered the disk but there was no message that the printer was not connected. Waited several minutes and still without any message, I attached printer to the USB port. The disk downloaded drivers and when the alignment page came up and I tried to print, it said the printer is not communicating.
Restart your computer and press F2 at the Dell Screen. Look for boot sequence. Make it...
cd/dvd rom
hdd hard drive
usb removable devices
network
Save changes and exit.
Remove any sd media cards in the printer, then disconnect the printer, run the patch, then restart. Make sure the printer is removed. Manual Printer Driver Removal
Now install the drivers first. You should get a message the printer is not conected. Connect the printer at this time(powered on).
I am using Mcafee for both firewall and virus protection.
After doing the patch the first time, I put in the dell printer cd and reinstalled the printer but still had the same problem. I did not use the manual printer driver removal. Should I do the patch again and then use the manual printer driver remover and then reinstall the printer?
The patch must be run on Vista/Windows 7 machines. I usually recommend running it on Xp machines, also, the restarting the computer to finish the removal process.
I guess you'll need this, since I just now realized that I did not provide it.
Allowing Printer past McAfee
1. Open the McAfee Security Center and then click on the ‘Internet and Network’
2. To the right of ‘Internet and Network’ you would see all the services that are present under it, just below that you would have a button ‘Configure’ please click on that.
3. Now you would have the Internet and Network Configuration, in this window you would have an option ‘Firewall Protection in Enabled’ to the right of that you would have a downward arrow, click on that.
4. Then click on the ‘Advanced’ button which would have a new screen up.
5. To the left of that window you would have ‘System Services’ click on it and to the right pane of the window you would have the ports listed.
6. Please check the option which is for ‘Windows File Sharing’ then click on ‘Apply’ and then ‘Ok’
My Mcafee is a little different. But I found the windows file sharing under Ports and Services. It read "Windows file Sharing (NETBIOS) Ports 137-139. Checked marked it and restarted computer. Still no communication with the printer.
No I am not printer sharing. I did hook up the printer to the laptop via the USB cable to see if the printer would print and it did. Just wanted to check to see if I had a bad USB cable.

Rick;
I was using Mcafee Firewall and Virus protection but changed temporarily to Avast and Windows firewall to see if that would make a difference.
Also I forgot to mention that I had another problem that I don't know if it could be connected to the printer problem or not.
Whenever I start the computer I've had the windows installer box appear saying preparing to install. It stays for about a minute and then disappears.

Rick:
The boot sequence was:
IDE CR ROM Device
Hard Disk Dive C
Diskette D drive
That was all that showed. I have not done the patch again yet. Waiting to hear from you to see if anything else needs to be done first.

After checking online I guess the 922 printer does not have a media card. I looked at the boot sequence and here is what it said:
IDE CD-ROM
