Dell 922 printer cannot communicate with Dell Dimension 3000
Computer and printer have been working ok. Both are 2005. Have tried all of the previous replies from over 2 years ago that applied to my problem but so far no luck. Must be the computer as I hooked the printer to a Toshiba Laptop and was able to print from the 922 Printer. I've unplugged USB cable, put it in another hub. Changed Anti-Virus and Firewall programs. Uninstalled the printer and reinstalled. When I do hit the print button and the error comes up, I did check in the Control Panel and the printer shows that 1 item is printing. I have not reinstalled XP as of now. Any help will be greatle appreciated. Thanks

I disabled the DCOM and computer printer and the other problem areas all worked. I even backed up the whole new system that I had reinstalled.
I then did the chkdsk /r. After the computer started back up the printer and other areas would not work again so I reinstalled the windows installer 4.5 and now everything works again.
For some reason the windows installer seems to have a problem everytime I reboot the computer.

Tracy,
Has seen Windows installer have problems but usually installing it, stops the problems.
Ask that in the desktop forum anout the windowsd installer.

I asked the question several days ago on the desktop forum and it got moved to the software and o/s forum. As of now, no answers.
I just got back from being out of town for 3 days. I left the computer on with the screen saver on for 10 minutes and then the monitor off after 20 minutes. I thought maybe by not shutting off the computer, it would be OK. Wrong assumption. Printer could not communicate again when the computer loaded my settings again. Is there a way to never log off. Ever since I reinstalled the windows xp, I must have done something that requires us to log in or sign on each time we are away from the computer for over 20 minutes. Maybe if I can change that, then I will not have to install the windows installer each time.

Tracy,
Right click on blank space on desktop, left click personalize. Click on screen saver. Look there and uncheck the box to use password to log in. Power options are also there.
