Dell 968 & 968w All-In-One Printer owners thread (W7)

Please follow the instructions below and then tell me what happens.

First, let's make sure your computer has the latest Windows Updates, especially .net framework, needed to run many applications and the latest Java.

I recommend using these  Recommended Wireless Router Settings to get everything to communicate correctly. I have DHCP enabled on my wireless router. I assigned my printer an ip address at the high end of my ip address. (Example: my printer ip address is 192.168.1.149) All the other computer get assigned an ip address automatically.

Disconnect your printer.

Un-install your printer.

Also try  Manual Printer Driver Removal

Restart your computer.

Download the proper drivers.

XP/Vista Windows 7 32-bit drivers

Vista/Windows 7 64-bit drivers

All other drivers

Install the proper drivers. You'll be prompted when to connect your printer(powered on)

***To install drivers, sometimes the file unzips and does nothing. You have to look for the setup.exe file, right click on it, then left click run as administrator***

If using Windows 7, use the Vista drivers in the compatibility mode.

Right click on the setup.exe file, left click properties, left click compatibility. Change the compatibility to Vista(Try Vista SP2). Then install the proper drivers. You'll be prompted when to connect the printer(powered on)

***To install drivers, sometimes the file unzips and does nothing. You have to look for the setup.exe file, right click on it, then left click run as administrator***

As for scanning, if you have the disk that came with the printer, then insert the Printer disk and stop it from running. Go to My Computer and double click on it. Look for the drive with the Dell disk in it. Right click on it, left click explore. Look for the OCR Folder. In the OCR Folder, there is an Abbyy Folder. right click on setup.exe, that's in the Abbyy Folder and left click run as administrator. This will install the OCR program.

Scanning

Scanning using USB connection, open the Dell All-In-One Center, click on scanning and copying and scan from there.

Scanning wirelessly, use the scan buttons on the printer.

I have tried all the solutions here and still get no joy.

Hardware: HP dc570S with Win7 Ultimate 64-bit, 4GB RAM, all the latest updates.

I have unplugged/turned off the printer. Downloaded the software from Dell. Ran as Administrator in Vista SP2 Compatibility mode. Every time I plug in the printer, Win7 starts downloading and installing drivers, even when the setup program from Dell continues to run. Sometimes it claims success, other times not.

When I try to print a test page I get a screen that says the computer cannot communicate with the printer.

I've tried different USB ports, different USB cables. Nothing works.

Any one? Any ideas?

Thanks...

Albert,

Run Delete Print Jobs to remove any stuck print jobs in the queue.

Every time you print from a different program, click file, print and make sure the proper printer is selected. When a printer is uninstalled, they sometimes default to another type of printer or print program, so selecting the proper printer is important.

Pudge: re "The New Hardware Wizard may detect the printer device after every restart of the computer": This applies to WinXP. I'm running Win7 64-bit. I'll still take a look, although this doesn't completely describe my problem.

Dear Rick,

we did so  !

But the correct printer is selected and the "Delete Printer Jobs" does also not seem to show any pushing effects !

:-(

Albert,

Make and  model or your computer and operating system. 32-bit or 64-bit?

Was this computer purchased with Windows 7 or upgraded?

 barryseymour,

The operating system, was it upgraded to Windows 7 64-bit or purchased with Windows 7?

The operating system language, is this English(US)?

The only known issues that I know of are...

There were issues with theses items, maybe you have one of these.

I wiped an older machine clean and installed Win7 64-bit ultimate from scratch. It's English (US), yes.

I'll look at the link you gave me.

Albert,

Can I ask you to make a new thread in the Dell Printers Forum Subject: Dell 968 Printer and Windows 7 64-bit, don't worry, I subscribe to all threads in the Dell Printer Forum and respond in the order I recieve them, when I get some free time.

Please run Finding System Information and please remove your product ID.

Do you have anything installed AMD or  NVIDIA's Network Access Manager?

We'll continue in the new thread. You'll understand when you run Finding system information.

Friends,

I have a problem with my Dell AIO 968 printer.

If I want a document, scan or print something I get an annoying error message: "job status window interface has stopped working"

If I click close, then the message comes back again when I click a second time on close, then the message goes away

My desktop is Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit

drivers installed / removed / reinstalled / vista drivers / XP drivers / tried compatibility mode / ... nothing has ensured that it worked properly...

can someone help me please?? or knows this problem?

thanks in advance Bjorn

I have the same problem with the same printer. I have discovered that the printer works fine on 32-bit Windows 7 computers but NOT on 64-bit PCs. I don't know if Dell is planning to rewrite a bunch of drivers for 'old' printers to accomodate 64-bit computers, but I kind of doubt it. Sorry.

You might try the 64-bit Vista drivers for that printer, if there are any. If you find them and get 'em working, please let us all know.

Thanks!

Barry
