Is the XP Pro machine a 32-bit or 64-bit operating system?

May I ask a few questions before we get too far.

What type of security are you using with your wireless router? What channel?

What Service Pack are you running on the Latitude with XP Pro?

What type of virus protection are you using on the XP Pro machine?

I used to own a Dell 964 Printer and had mine connected to the Dell 3300 wireless print adapter and had it working with no problems, so I feel we can get this working for you.

Everything used work perfectlyon both Ltitude and Inspiron until I had to do a reinstal . I used a registry cleaner after which I could no longer scan from the 964 due to a fault in some dll in Abby finesprint. Tried all sorts to cure this but all of the time printer/3300 were  working perfectly, other than scanning, on both computers.

Eventually i did an uninstall and reinstall of 3300 and 964 and of course the 964 software. everything working perfectly on Inspiron but, as explained in first email, cannot instal 964 on Latitude; just will not go past that opening screen.

If both computers with XP have SP2 installed, then You can use WPA-PSK(TKIP) Security(Personal) If still using XP SP1, you can download WPA Security from HERE. WEP can be hacked in a matter of minutes. When I had my 3300, I used these Recommended Wireless Router Settings, I used channel 11.

Not sure if AVG Free is causing problems or not, yet. You may want to disable AVG while setting up everything to make sure.

How did you reinstall XP 32-bit on the Latitude? Did you install the notebook utility and the chipset drivers first? If not, the rest of the drivers will fail to install. How to Download and Install Drivers in the Correct Order Do you have any yellow exclaimination marks in the device manager?

Since you used a registry cleaner, maybe you might want to try an XP Repair.

I recommend making copies of files and folders that you cannot afford to lose. This should be a normal practice.

Insert the XP operating disk and restart your computer.

Press any key to boot from CD

Choose install

Do the agreement.

Now choose repair. Leave the disk in the computer until you see the Welcome screen. Takes about 35 minutes. You'll have to get all your Windows updates again. If you have SP2 on both computers, then I would recommend switching to WPA_PSK(TKIP) Security(Personal). You will need to change the SSID and then setup the 3300, again. Leave me know which route you want to proceed with next. If you want to stay with WEP, that's ok also but communications with the wireless router and the 3300 sometimes have issues.

Have tried following.

AVG enabled/disabled made no difference to ability to launch Printer Instal function.

Decided to try XP Repair from CD. Unable to launch Repair as you suggest; starting up and pressing any key does not get me into CD; system just boots uo normally. Used "run" CD but would not allow me to proceed as Version Installed is newer than Version on CD.

Please advise is there another way to run Repair?

Restart your computer and press F2 when you see the Dell Screen. Enter the Bios. Look for boot sequence. Chane the order to...

CD/DVD Rom

HDD Hard Drive

USB Devices

Network

Save and exit.

Now when you put the CD in, stop it from running. Restart the computer and you should be able to follow the instructions in the ABOVE THREAD.

Nearly worked.

Did repair and process was AOK until I get to the end when a screen comes up with Windows  XP logo and "Please wait..." and an egg-timer.

Have waited all night and nothing happened. Egg timer symbol can be moved about on screen so has not frozen. But not responding to any keys.

Turned PC off using power switch and re-ran the Repair process; sitting here again "stuck" on the same screen-"Please wait...".

Any ideas please and a Happy New Year to you.

Did you have any USB devices attached or anything you added to the computer, since you purchased it?

The USB Devices need disconnected to repair/install and operating system.

Have done XP Repair with no USB devices and brought down all updates.

Still no success in installing AIO 964 to the Latitude. Exactly as it was when first reported it- am getting the Instal screen; am accepting " Network Installation" option; the screen disappears,  the CD spins but absolutely nothing else appears or seems to happen.

AIO964 still working perfectly from the Inspiron on the same Wi-Fi Network. Both PCs using WEP.

Have run the AIO964 for years under WEP on both computers. WPA is not of any particular interest to me unless it helps to instal the AIO964.

Is it worth trying WPA as you suggest? If I do I presume I first go to Wi-Fi router and change it to WPA and then re-instal the 3300 on the Network. Am I correct in having the 3300 software installed on only one computer?

I should clarify that when I accept "Network Installation" it is the little Printer Installation Software screen that disappears; whatever other screen I happen to be on at the time remains visible and the computer behaves normally.

I have now tried all of the things you have kindly suggested, including XP Repair, switching over to WPA-PSK ( TK IP), Ch 11 and all of the recommended set-ups for wireless adapters, disabling AVG and Firewall

I have re-installed 3300 on my Latitude but can only instal the AIO 964 on the Inspiron. As I was in my first Post of 29 Dec. I cannot get past selecting the" Instal to Network " when trying to instal the printer on Latitude, so, unfortunately, no progress .

Will you be able to help me further please or should I google my problem?

You have the wireless router using these Recommended Wireless Router Settings, channel 11.

You have setup the 3300 and it did find your network, correct?

If you can then communicate with the printer for the other computer, then let me know the make and model of the problem computer and operating system. 32-bit or 64-bit?

Virus program and firewalls on the computer.

The patch/upgrade is really a printer cleanup utility and if run, needs to be run before installing the printer. Since this is XP, the patch needs a password but can be opened with 7-Zip

I have all downloads available from Windows update both express and custom and very latest Java 6.23. Computer has been re-started and process re-run with absolutely no change, cannot get past the " Network Installation" screen.
