Dell all in one 944 photo printer problem

I would greatly appreciate any input on this problem. Every time my computer loses power such as a power outage or if I have to turn my surge protector off for any reason, my printer will no longer work. I need to go in and totally remove it and reinstall it. This is getting tiring and I was wondering if anyone else is having the same problem and if so if there is a solution to fixing it?? Example today my dsl line wasnt working so the provider told me to shut down all power and when I put the power back on and went to use my printer it said unable to communicate so I did all it said and still nothing, so I had to go to printers and remove and then reinstall and then it worked fine. Two other times when our power blinked off during a storm I had to do the same thing or the printer wouldnt work. Thanks for any suggestions.

At least yours prints. I have not been able to get this 944 to print at all. I have used the troubleshooter and still nothing. I have only gotten to the point where "there is a problem communicating with the printer" and "Code 28" drivers not installed. The Drivers and utilites disk made an awful noise when I tried to reinstall and when I initially installed. I am so disappointed. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Well I am now awaiting a new printer since my scan option has blown out. I too am disappointed in this printer.I thought by getting a dell that I would be getting something good but I wish now I had my old hp back for that never gave me any problems. As for your drivers, go to the dell site and on the inside of your machine is a service tag number. Type that in and then choose the 944 all in one printer and it will let you download the drivers. They just had me do that to see if that was what my problem was but it wasnt.Good luck.

Thanks for the reply. I have downloaded and installed the drivers from the site more times than I can remember and still the device manager does not recognize the driver for the printer. There is still that big yellow question mark and the code 28 saying that the drivers are not installed. This message even though the printer is showing as the default one.

This is my second 944 ( the first one did n't work) and I have just about given up. IF my Lexmark x73 had not quit and I didn't have a Dell computer I would never have gotten this Dell.
