Dell C1765nfw Color MFP "turn printer on" wireless problem

Recently have become unable to wirelessly connect to the printer on my home network.  When i troubleshoot on my laptop,  it tells me to turn the printer on and try again.   Same problem from other laptops in the house. The printer is definitely on and it indicates that it is connected to the home network.  The system worked fine for a couple months.  I have restarted. re-entered the wireless WEP.

Hello Colin,

Thank you for posting to the forum. It sounds like the IP address may have just changed, if you see indications that it is showing as being connected to the network. You can print off a settings report and comparing the IP address on the paper to what is on the driver under the ports tab. If you still run into issues. I would recommend re-installing the printer using the CD and USB.

Regards,

Thanks Joseph - you are correct - the IP address on the printer and what the computers on the network think it is are different.   I changed the IP address in the printer settings menu and rebooted the printer and a network laptop,  but it still doesn't work.

Is the printer getting its IP address from the router?  Would rebooting the router reset things?

Hello Colin,

That would depend on how you have your network configured. Most folks have their router setup by default to act as the DHCP Server. This service automatically assigns IP addresses to devices for a certain period of time, often termed as a DHCP lease. Rebooting the router doesn't often reset things without you indicating through a button push or configuration change to reset.

The easiest way to fix this issue is to set the printer driver, which is the software on the computer to the new IP address by either changing the existing port IP address or creating a new IP address entry. The link below gives you an example of what the area to make the changes should look like. If you need further assistance please contact support though phone or chat.
