Dell Photo AIO Printer 962 - Right cartridge incorrect

I've had my 962 printer for about three months now and all of a sudden it started displaying the message "right cartridge incorrect" on the front. I've gone through all the trouble-shooting guides, cleaning the contacts, disconnecting power, etc. Each time I either get the "right cartridge incorrect" message or "right cartridge missing" while the cartridge is there. The trouble-shooting guides say to buy a new cartridge! Why should I buy a new cartridge? It's practically brand new. Still 75% full (or better) at the last printing. Everything has been working great until today! I even printer color label a few days ago. Anyone have any thoughts? I saw a similar posting on a 924 printer.

I solved my problem by replacing the faulty (and almost full) color cartridge. Dell support sent me (free-of-charge) a replacement cartdridge. I have to say I'm satisfied with the support.

There are some websites reporting that the printer and printer driver track the cartridge ID and it's age, and thus expire them if the printer suspects the cartridge has been refilled.

Dell, please comment and let us know that this is absolultely untrue, that as consumers we have the choice to refill our cartridges if we want to, even if it voids the warrantee.

Thank you.

Hi,
you can´t use a Lexmark cartridge. Lexmark and Dell are the same printer, but not the same cartridges.

I have had the same problem twice.  My warranty has expired recently so I used the tech support online and did all of the things that everyone else has and also uninstalled hardware and reinstalled to no avail.  I called Dell to replace cartridge.  I was put through 6 people, each time giving them all the information, service tag number, express service code, e-mail address, etc.  I was on the phone for over an hour.  Dell needs to read these messages.  Obviously there is a real problem.  They have all been read at least 2500 times.  Unfortunately we have 3 Dell printers.  I will never buy one again.

I have the right cartridge incorrect error too.  This seems to be a pretty widespread problem based on the number of postings.  Other Dell models seem to be having experience the right cartridge incorrect error as well.

I recently replaced the black ink cartridge and was surprised to see the right cartridge incorrect error since I didn't even touch the cartridge.  My color ink cartridge is more than half full.  The printer is out of warranty so its frustrating to need to pay another $23-$31 for a new ink cartridge and knowing that this could happen again.  It makes for pretty expensive printing.  In the meantime, the flashing light on the printer is pretty annoying too.

There should have a product recall if there are so many defective ink cartridges.
