Dell Printer AIO 964 and Windows 7 64

Are we going to see dell AIO 964 drivers for Windows 7 64? Windows 7 RC has been released and the only reason I haven't switched to Win 7 is because my printer doesn't work with Win 7. The drivers that Windows update installs are a year old and not fully compatible with my printer. I can scan but i can't print. Windows recognizes my printer and device manager shows it as working fine but when I click Print nothing happens. I know that Win 7 isn't officialy out but Win 7 isn't very different from Vista I'm sure it won't take too much time to write drivers for Win 7 or maybe just tweak the Vista drivers so they would work with Win 7

This is so weird...I tried installing the Vista 64 AIO 964 (R146816) and it never worked...I just found a different version of the same driver,  R146813 and I can confirm that it's fully compatible with Win 7 64 RC.

Thanks for your replies, guys!

I installed the AIO 948 drivers (updated from this site) with Windows 7 RC and everything worked flawlessly even to the wireless adaptor on the printer.

Mo1ecu1e,

Dell support for printer drivers is going to be tough until Windows 7 is Offically released.

Did you try using the Vista 64-bit Drivers for the 964 Printer?

Mo1ecu1e,

I kinda hang out in the Printer Forum and just finding the Vista 64-bit drivers was a task. I remembered that the Vista drivers should work for Windows 7, so I figured that I would offer the 64-bit drivers, since they are NOT in the drop down menu at Drivers & Downloads.

GREAT JOB! :emotion-21: Thanks for posting back. Could you mark the verify answer(s) that helped you solve your problem, so if someone else searches the forums, they can see what you did to fix your problem(s).

Thanks,

Rick

I can also vouch for the R146813 drivers working in Windows 7 RC. It did not work initially with the default Windows 7 drivers and when i tried to update the drivers from the device manager with the R146813 drivers it said they were up to date and would not be installed. Then I tried running the setup.exe located in the zip folder using the copy over the existing drivers it still did not work. This is how I got the AIO 964 printer to work in Windows 7 from start to finish.

1. Open device manager and uninstall the printer making sure to tick the "Delete the driver software for the device" box.

2. Unplug the USB cord for the printer.

3. If you have previously tried installing the dell drivers using the setup.exe make sure to uninstall the printer drivers and supporting application. if not disregard this step.

3. Run the clean up patch (R166225.zip)

4. Reboot

5. Right click on the installer and go to the "Compatibility" tab. Check "Run this program in compatibility mode" and choose "Windows Vista" Finally check the "Run as Administrator" option. Click Apply and OK.

5. Install the R146813 drivers plugging in the printer when prompter by the installer.

Thats it. If all goes well your 964 should be working properly in Windows 7

schlo,

Had to refresh my memory of your setup. You had Vista 64-bit as stated in your thread.

Go to your thread and disconect the printer. Run the patch, same as before. It may or may not work. Also do this. Manual Printer Driver Removal

Restart your computer.

Before you install the Vista 64-bit drivers, You'll need to do this.

Right click on the setup.exe file, left click properties, left click compatibility. Change the compatibility to Vista. Then install the proper drivers. You'll be prompted when to connect the printer(powered on)

***To install drivers, sometimes the file unzips and does nothing. You have to look for the setup.exe file, right click on it, then left click run as administrator***

It does work as I'm using Windows 7 with my Dell 964 printer. You can respond at ether thread as I will be notified when you reply.

Hi,thanks for the reply.I believe that I have all the vista drivers installed,as u said in previous replies. I'm using my aio964 now ,ok ,with my vista home premium.I would think that the r146813 driver is in place??So does that sound like if I upgrade,it will work??thanks

schlo,

If you install Windows 7, then do NOT connect the printer until you install the R146813 in the compatibility mode. The printer should install without any problems.

You can thank Mo1ecu1e for finding the solution as he was the first to try this.

Mo1ecu1e,

I would also like to thank you for the solution for installing the drivers as Dell says this printer is NOT Windows 7 compatible, and it is.

Than you,

Rick

OK,as u know,I'm not great at this..Am I to understand that the driver(r146813), is not already part of my printer that is already working on vista 64? If so ,I go to the dell driver page, after unpluging my printer, and after installing the win 7 cd and install that driver? Then re-plug in the printer, and usb connection??thanks, have patience!

schlo,

Install Windows 7. Get everything up and running before you connect and install the printer. After you have everything, then download the Vista 64-bit drivers that I gave you the link to in a thread above. SActually, I have burned all these drivers to a disk for my printer.

Right click on the setup.exe file, left click properties, left click compatibility. Change the compatibility to Vista. Then install the proper drivers. You'll be prompted when to connect the printer(powered on)

***To install drivers, sometimes the file unzips and does nothing. You have to look for the setup.exe file, right click on it, then left click run as administrator***

schlo,

Double click on R146813. Then...

Right click on the setup.exe file, left click properties, left click compatibility. Change the compatibility to Vista. Then install the proper drivers. You'll be prompted when to connect the printer(powered on)
