Dell V313W all in one cannot retrieve application list (scanning feature)

Cannot use the scan feature with this new printer.  Get message 'cannot retrieve application list' .  on the control panel under scanners/cameras (running xp) it is not recognizing the imaging device.  last week i was on dell chat for over 4 hrs and the rep took over control of my computer.  we un-installed it and re-installed it.  problem is still there.  any suggestions what to do next?

 bhbuilders,

Try running Finding System Information remove your product Id and post it back here along with the other information.

What is the make and model of your wireless router?

What type of security and channel are you using?

Did you try these Recommended Wireless Router Settings, I use channel 11.

What type of virus protection and firewall are you using?

i do not have a wireless router.  i just have the new printer plugged into a usb port on my pc.  i am running windows xp.  the printer works fine, my operating systems is not recognizing the scanner.  i have  the same printer model plugged into my bosses pc and when i right click on his printer icon and go to properties, it shows scan options.

my printer properties do not show any scan options, which tells me its not finding the image device.  the only difference is he runs windows 7 and i run windows xp.  same printer model.   the scanner works when i scan to a flash drive.  its something simple/stupid with my software/operating system.

 bhbuilders,

Do you have Dell Printer Home or Dell Imaging Toolbox installed on the computer?

What are you trying to scan to?

Did you try these tweaks?

Go to device manager(right click my computer, left click properties, left click hardware, left click device manager)

Go to the USB Controller section and click the + sign.

Go to each USB Root Hub and right click on it, left click properties, left click power management. Uncheck the box, allow computer to turn off this device to save power.

Restart your computer.

hi rick,

yes i have dell printer home installed on the pc.

i'm trying to scan a document to my pc.

yes i have tried the tweaks.  all my usb root hubs do not have checks in the boxes.

when i click on the dell printer home icon and click on scan, it says unsuccessful scan.

for some weird reason, my xp operating system is not recognizing the scanner plugged into the usb port, but it finds the printer fine.

Kim,

Try...

Enable Bidirectional Support/Enable Biodirectional Support

Also which virus program do you have installed? Firewall?

Start, all programs, Abbyy Fine Reader, Abbyy Fine Reader. Open it, do the agreement and register.

Kim,

AVG is the culprit. It's really hard to remove, also. It disable programs and causes problems with devices.

Please Read This Before Posting For Malware Removal Help and post in the DELL Malware Removal Forum they can help you remove it, then you'll need to get new virus protection or you can contact AVG and ask them how to get your printer to work with their product.

hi rick,

my 1 question is that if it is avg, why was i able to install the same printer on my bosses pc  and avg is his virus software.  the only difference between our 2 pcs,  he has windows 7 and i have windows xp.  same dell printer model.  i can scan and save files to his pc just fine.

my printer works fine and am able to scan to a flash drive, just can't scan to a computer file.

i un-installed avg on my pc to see if would  make a difference.  no luck.

what else do i need to do - you said its hard to remove.

Kim,

I still was not provided with the make and model of the computer and operating system. 32-bit or 64-bit, I do know the V313 is connected with USB cable, correct.

Running Finding System Information and removing the product ID would provide the information I need.

Kim,

If you have in th compaq control panel, AMD USB Audio Driver Filter, uninstall it, then restart your computer.

Allow Wireless Printer Blocked by AVG 8.0 Firewall

sylvaniab,

Printer wired or wireless?

What virus program and firewall do you have installed?

On your XP machine, do you have all the custom programs installed, like .net framework needed to run many applications and Download Latest Java
