Does anyone know how to fix AIO 964 scanning problems?

Hi All,

After searching and following directions, 5 hours with Tech support, I still cannot scan from my computer!  Am connected USB, have used CleanUtility, newest drivers from web site, turned off virus and firewall, and nothing works! One would think that Dell would  have drivers that work for Vista,,,,especially if the printer is theirs!

Any suggestions on AIO that DO work with Vista?  I am ready to sell this one to a XP user!  Any ideas out there?

Inspiron 1720

Vista home premium

3g memory

Thanks!

Try installing the drivers this way. I have a 964 and I have no problems scanning.

How are you connected to the printer? wired of wireless?

If wired, disconnect your printer. Go to start/programs/Dell printers and un-install your printer.

Restart your computer.

Now go to drivers and downloads/select product/printers/select your printer. Download drivers, Utilities, firmware and Patches.

Install your printer. You'll be prompted when to connect it.

Install and patches next. Then the Utilities and firmware.

If wireless, fix your network first.

Update the firmware in your wireless router. Manufacturer's website, make & Model needed.

Broadcast SSID(You may want to change this to make it easier to connect)

Use WPA security

Mixed b and g mode(n if available)

Use channels 1, 6 or 11. Most devices work better on these channels.

After router is done, now setup your wireless print server/printer.

If wireless printer server is used, Plug USB cable into computer and print server. Insert the print server disk. Choose Network, then choose print server and follow the instructions.

Now setup the printer.

Now go to drivers and downloads/select product/printers/select your printer. Download drivers, Utilities, firmware and Patches.

Install your printer. Choose Network. Install the drivers.

Install any patches next.

Everything should now work.

Thanks for the advice, but this has been tried many times, exactly as you printed,  by me, a print tech and a tech support person,,,does not scan.  The print tech felt that this is a computer problem, conflict with software, as the printer/scanner  works fine stand alone.   The message keeps saying that the "Device driver software was not installed successfully"  and also say that the "Wizard was cancelled by owner" which is was not...another piece of the puzzle!  Please keep any advice coming!

First here's my setup. 964 hooked up to a Wireless print adapter 3300. Drinver and Utilities installed in every computer.

Scanning

Wireless

Use the scan buttons on the printer.

Select the computer you want to scan to.

USB

Open the Dell All-In-One Center

Click on Scanning and Copying.

Use the buttons there to scan

Not sure hoe this would work on your network, but one of the above should work.
