Drivers for Inkjet 720 and Windows 7?
Are there any available for 64-bit Windows 7? I can't print and I'm not sure if this is the problem. The only drivers I could find online were for Windows 2000/Vista/XP, and 32-bit at that.
Thanks,
John

Hi Rick - Four years on... your post is still working !
I had been struggling getting my Dell 720 to print with my upgraded Windows 7 Desktop until I found your post.
Worked like a Dream!...Saved me having to buy a new printer...
The Dell site still states that the 720 Inkjet is not compatible with Windows 7... so more credit to you!
Keep up the good work

Hello Rick
I ve been reading carefully this thread but but the 64bit driver will not install on 2 of my systems (both Win 7 64 bit, 1 pro and 1 home) :
I get the follwing message : Window has found a driver software for your devices but its has encountered an error while attempting to install it.
I used the patch from the link you also provided with to do a clean uninstall of the driver prior to each new attempt . I still got the same message using all the compatbility mode avalaible. vista, xp, etc.)
Have any idea of what is wrong with mys systems ?

MTN,
No need to run the patch. Try the procedure below exactly as it's stated.
Try this procedure and see if the printer installs.
First run Delete Print Jobs to remove any stuck print job in the queue.
Disconnect the printer.
Hit the Windows key and the x keys at the same time, programs and features, your printer, uninstall.
Restart your computer. Make sure the printer is removed. Manual Printer Driver Removal
Download the Vista 32-bit drivers for Windows 7, 8, 8.1 and 10 32-bit or the Vista 64-bit drivers for Windows 7, 8, 8.1 and 10 64-bit. Install the Vista drivers in the Vista Compatibility mode you’ll get a message, the printer is not connected. Connect the printer at this time (powered on).
Links to the drivers can be found at…

Remember virus programs and firewalls will block communications.

Rick,
Thanks for your quick answer
I followed your instructions :
unisntalled dell printer program,
launched the driver set up program (R149373) using vista sp2 compatibility mode.
when asked, I plugged the the printer to my laptop ...the program installation continues . The system is trying ton install the driver at the same time : an icon is spinning in the notification area (at right end of the task bar). After a few seconds the system reprts that driver could not be installed.
I got the following details (sorry for the poor translation from French) when i clicked on the icon :
USB printing support : ready (green check mark)
dell photo printer : no driver found (red cross mark)
No error message from the DELL driver set up program at the end but I suspect the install is not completed since the only program available under dell start/progrma menu is the uninstall program
I also tried to install manually the driver by selecting the printer in the peripheral tree and targetting the dell folder (where the driver has been unzipped) and also got the follwing error message :
Window has found a driver software for your devices but its has encountered an error while attempting to install it....the specified file could not be found
Any idea ?

MTN,
Operating system in French?
First run Delete Print Jobs to remove any stuck print job in the queue.
Disconnect the printer.
Hit the Windows key and the x keys at the same time, programs and features, your printer, uninstall.
Restart your computer. Make sure the printer is removed. Manual Printer Driver Removal
Download the Vista 64-bit drivers. Install the Vista drivers in the Vista Compatibility mode You may or may not get a message to connect the printer.
You already did the above steps
Disconnect the printer.
Hit the Windows key and the R keys at the same time. Type...
C:\Program Files\Dell 720\Drivers
You should see an English folder there. Right click, new, create folder. Name the new folder French. Copy all the files in the English folder and paste them to the French folder.
Double click on the Vista 64-bit drivers and install again. There should be a message, then printer is not connected. Connect the printer at this time (powered on.)
Links to the patch/drivers can be found at...
Dell 720 Color Inkjet Printer owners thread (W7)
The printer will work in English instead of French.

MTN,
Sorry for the delay, WORK.
I see XP and Vista French drivers but that would mean that they're 32-bit drivers. Found the French 32-bit xp, Vista drivers HERE.
Start over and follow the procedure(below) using the R149373 Drivers Make sure not to connect the printer until drivers are installed. Copying the English drivers to the made French folder tricks the system into thinking the drivers are French instead of English, allowing the drivers to install on a French system.
Disconnect the printer.
Hit the Windows key and the R keys at the same time. Type...
C:\Program Files\Dell 720\Drivers or C:\Program Files\Dell Photo Printer 720\Drivers
You should see an English folder there. Right click, new, create folder. Name the new folder French. Copy all the files in the English folder and paste them to the French folder.
Double click on the Vista 64-bit drivers and install again. There should be a message, then printer is not connected. Connect the printer at this time (powered on.)

Hello Rick
Sorry for this late reply : I ve been away for a week. Just came home this morning
I followed your instructions (above) but the driver will not install / be found....
Actually there is no "english" sub folder in C:\Program Files\Dell Photo Printer 720\Drivers only "french".
So I duplicated the "french" folder and rename them "english" and launched the set up again....with no luck
since I still think taht you are right at some point, I took a look at the folder where the DELL driver set up program has been decompressed (eg C:\dell\drivers\R149373). There are several "english" folder in there so I duplicated, renamed them "french" and launched the set up program
....the drivers eventually got installed and I managed to print something out.
Thanks for this brilliant idea !
It took a while but it worths it . Thank you again for your help.
Cheers
MTN
